GCI has diverted over 28+ million pounds of waste from landfills since 2018. We do this by source-separating materials and delivering them early each morning to Recology’s dedicated construction material recycling area. These materials are then sorted and responsibly disposed of or repurposed into new materials.

To give our team a first-hand look at this process, our sustainability manager, Alejandra Arce Gomez, organized a visit to Recology’s San Francisco facility. It was fascinating to see the city’s recycling, composting, and waste systems in action — systems that support our sustainable demolition initiative and the life cycle of everyday products after they’re picked up from our homes.

Thank you to Chris and the Recology team for showing us the complex, impactful work behind collecting, sorting, and processing materials – and for helping us advance our mission to reduce waste in the construction industry.

What a rewarding project this was. Across the bridge in San Rafael, The Pasha Group, a global logistics and transportation company specializing in maritime services, has officially moved into their new headquarters. Their new space sits right on the water, overlooking the very seas through which their work helps connect people every day.

So many aspects of the design, location, and detailing in this project were intentionally crafted to honor the company’s history and support its ethos moving forward. The workplace was designed around five core cognitive modes (collaboration, focus, socialization, learning, and rejuvenation) forming an environment centered on connection, community, and flexible workflows that support wellness, concentration, and people doing their best work.

GCI, Brereton, and The Pasha Group worked closely together to bring this vision to life, finding creative solutions throughout the process. Some of the project’s unique features included suspending two model ship hulls, measuring 13 and 23 feet long, from the ceiling and repurposing shipping container doors into a striking focal point in the break room. The end result is a space that feels meaningful and memorable, and the collaboration along the way made the process especially rewarding.

Project completion hits differently when you realize it’s more than just the end of construction, it’s the beginning of what happens inside the space.

This week, we celebrated the ribbon-cutting of one of our recent projects in Palo Alto alongside our incredible clients, design partners, and the people who will soon bring this workplace to life every day.

For our team, moments like these represent thousands of hours of coordination, craftsmanship, problem-solving, and partnership. But the most rewarding part is knowing the space is now ready to support meaningful work, collaboration, and future growth.

We’re incredibly grateful to have played a role in this historic project. More to come soon, but here’s a sneak peek at the space!

Every year, architects, engineers, GCs, and many design industry partners across The Bay Area team up with a local elementary school for annual Sand Castle Contest!

This year, we had the joy of partnering with and at the

The students’ creativity blew us away – from sketching and modeling their ideas in play dough, to being all hands on deck on the big day; shoveling, packing, pouring, spraying, smoothing, and of course lots of pizza. Their imagination truly led the way to create our Minecraft-themed masterpiece!

We’re so proud of what our team built together, and we are grateful for the chance to support LEAP’s mission to bring visual and performing arts to over 30 Bay Area schools.

Thank you to all the donors who contributed – we’re thrilled to have met our fundraising goal to help keep the creativity thriving!

Next up in our Look into Leadership series, we’re spotlighting Darren Leary, our Director of Self-Performed Work. Darren plays a pivotal role in bringing a blend of production, efficiency, safety and sustainability to bear across our projects.

Darren is a natural leader and mentor driven by passion, precision, and a deep commitment to knowledge sharing. His altruism extends into his involvement in the community by mentoring students through the Oakland Education Fund and as a trustee for union labor apprenticeship programs.

When he’s not onsite or in the classroom, you will find Darren outdoors hiking, road-tripping, or traveling with his family.

We had an amazing time at our second town hall of the year! It was wonderful to share our summer adventures, celebrate our achievements, and enjoy some friendly competition with bocce ball and bowling at in San Mateo.

Thank you to all the presenters who inspired us by showcasing the incredible work behind each project and program we participate in, as well as our commitment to safety, sustainability, and self-performed initiatives. This event was the perfect way to reconnect and wrap up the summer, energizing us for what is to come!
