Meet Thomas, one of our former interns who has since joined Cahill full-time as a Project Engineer!
Thomas first discovered Cahill through our internship program, drawn to our orange branding (his favorite color) and the opportunity to work on projects that make a meaningful impact in the Bay Area communities he calls home.
During his time as an intern with Cahill, Thomas gained experience at nearly every stage of construction, from project startup and active construction through closeout. He also spent a summer working with our Self-Perform team on wood framing, giving him firsthand field experience and a deeper understanding of the challenges our trade partners navigate every day.
“Having that range of experiences gave me a much more complete understanding of how a project comes together.”
Those experiences helped make his transition into a full-time Project Engineer feel natural. Already familiar with Cahill’s processes and project teams, Thomas was able to step into his new role ready to take on greater responsibility, accountability, and ownership of his work.
His advice for future interns? Don’t be afraid to make mistakes or ask questions, and above all, be a sponge.
“Ask questions, spend time in the field, listen to your project team and the trades, and absorb as much knowledge as you can. You’ll be surprised by how much you can learn over the course of a summer.”
For Thomas, one of the most rewarding parts of his Cahill experience has been seeing the impact our projects have on the communities we serve. His first summer was spent at Ancora Place, a project designed to serve as an “anchor” for the surrounding community. Seeing that vision come to life reinforced one of the reasons he was drawn to Cahill in the first place: the opportunity to build projects that make a real difference.
From intern to his new role as a Project Engineer, we’re excited to see Thomas continue to learn, grow, and build his career at Cahill. 🏗️
