Project Spotlight: WestLight Energy – San Mateo County Office of Education

Featuring nearly 1,000 PV modules across rooftop and carport systems, the San Mateo County Office of Education installation was one of the largest in the WLE portfolio. Successful ex*****on under an accelerated schedule required close coordination, innovative engineering, and precise ex*****on.

On the rooftop scope, our team designed a racking system that worked within existing parapet height constraints—maximizing energy production while preserving the building’s architectural character.

On the carport scope, located just 300 feet from the Bay Water. High groundwater conditions required installation of pier caissons along with continuous dewatering to enable concrete placement. McMillan project managers coordinated with three specialized subcontractors to successfully complete the carport scope within a three-week schedule!

The completed system is expected to generate more than $1.5 million in energy cost savings, helping redirect resources toward educational programs, student support, and other initiatives that benefit the community.

We're grateful for the opportunity to have worked with WestLight Energy to create such an innovative, beautiful, and impactful system.

Project Spotlight: WestLight Energy – San Bruno Aquatic Center

Our Renewable Energy team was proud to partner with WestLight Energy on the photovoltaic installation at the new San Bruno Aquatic Center. This state-of-the-art facility was built as part of the community's continued investment in healing and rebuilding after a tragic gas pipeline explosion in 2010.

The brand-new, multi-level facility had multiple roof elevations, limited site access, and was bordered by two major roadways. Getting materials and installation crews safely to the roof required meticulous planning, including coordinated lane closures and precision crane operations from the side of a hill.

The McMillan Renewable Power Systems team rose up to this challenge by doing what we do best: Pre-Construction Planning, project coordination, people management, and clear, proactive communication.

Today, the solar energy system helps power a facility that represents resilience, renewal, and a lasting investment in the San Bruno community. We're honored to have played a role in bringing this facility to life

When the deadline for PG&E’s NEM 2.0 San Mateo County Solar Integration program loomed, McMillan Renewable Power Systems didn’t just step up—we sprinted. Driven by a mission to slash community energy costs and build resilient, sustainable power profiles across the Bay Area, McMillan took on multiple portfolios under an exceptionally tight timeline.

Executing this required the exact blend of agility, technical expertise, and relentless attention to detail that McMillan Electric is built on. The results speak for themselves: over the last 18 months, we designed and built over 70 unique sites, ranging from dense rooftop arrays to sprawling parking canopies.

This week we will share the story of five of these remarkable sites. Stories that show the values of McMillan Electric in action and demonstrate how it is that we rise above challenges other companies call impossible.
