Last week we invited you to fly through our latest — and undoubtedly cutest — project: **”The Garden of Growing Things”** at Parkside Elementary’s Kindercourt (TK-K) and Castle (Preschool) complex. A place where curiosity is the curriculum, and joy is built into the architecture.
Today, a closer look at the Kindercourt:
Seven kindergarten classrooms wrap nearly 12,000 sq ft of outdoor play space, designed entirely from a child’s point of view — counters at kid height, windows at eye level, surfaces that invite touch, classrooms that spill straight into the garden. Natural materials, abundant daylight, and patchwork tile details nod to Sebastopol’s agricultural roots, echoing the region’s fields and orchards.
The result: a campus that doesn’t just accommodate young learners, but engages them — making the environment itself part of the curriculum.
This project caps a multi-year partnership with the District. In 2023, Blitz led a Facilities Master Plan Study evaluating five approaches to replacing Parkside’s aging buildings — from a modular swap to a full reimagining of classrooms, district office, preschool, and community space. That process shaped the project’s vision and helped the District bring a bond measure to voters. Blitz proudly supported the District’s successful 2024 Measure N campaign.
Design is nearing completion, with occupancy
anticipated in 2028.
