From blue and gold to Valkyries violet!

It’s exciting to see Chase Center, a venue we’re proud to have been part of the design team, embrace a new era of basketball with the Golden State Valkyries.

As a women-led architecture firm - and huge basketball fans - seeing this incredible space become a stage for women’s basketball makes it even more meaningful.

Great architecture brings people together, celebrates community, and makes room for new stories. And when it comes to empowering women, the more color, the better!

This was such an interesting adaptive reuse project: converting two UC Berkeley student housing units into one infant childcare center to serve 22 children from ages three and twenty-four months.  
 
We asked the questions: How can a supportive childcare environment set the stage for joy and discovery? How can color and form play a role? How can design make a difference?  
 
So… we’re incredibly excited to share that the project has been named one of two finalists for the 2026 AIA East Bay Design Awards for Interiors! Being recognized alongside such talented firms and projects is always an honor. 
 
We’re spreading the news and getting ready to celebrate together.  
 
Winners will be announced at the 18th Annual Design Awards Gala on October 22 at the David Brower Center in Berkeley. 
 
We’ll be there with our team — wish us luck!

The Bauhaus’s radical ideas about art, architecture, craft, and everyday life continue to shape the way we think about design more than a century later.

Recent news of vandalism at the Bauhaus in Weimar is a troubling reminder that this extraordinary legacy is not something we can take for granted. Buildings, artworks, and ideas survive because we continue to value, protect, question, and engage with them.

In February, we participated in A Bauhaus Bathroom, a design competition for a public restroom at Gropius House in historic New England, approaching a decidedly everyday program through the lens of a place with an extraordinary architectural history.

A small intervention is an opportunity to consider how the principles and provocations of a legacy and site can remain part of contemporary life.

We share a few images from our proposal: the site, and our design explorations for The Bauhaus Bathroom. We thank our collaborators: Amy Eliot and Lemon Brooke.

We were thrilled to celebrate the grand opening of the Gene Friend Recreation Center this month, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a community already bringing the new spaces to life. 
 
This was a terrific collaboration! We enjoyed working with our JV partners at Mark Cavagnaro Associates, as well the with the City of San Francisco’s DPW and BOLA. 
 
Seeing children playing, neighbors gathering, and the building filled with activity is the best way to celebrate a project designed around community, connection, and play. 
 
We’re incredibly proud to have been part of the team that brought this new neighborhood resource to life—and grateful to everyone who helped make it happen.

Last Saturday at the AIA San Francisco 2026 Marin Home Tours, Liz toured two stellar mid-century residential renovations and moderated engaging discussions with the architects and landscape architect, engaging in thoughtful conversations exploring how these homes and landscapes adapt to contemporary living and everyday life.

These featured homes included a residence originally designed by Henrik Bull and renovated by Feldman Architecture, as well as a home designed by William Wurster and Thomas Church, and later renovated by ELA and MFLA.

Thank you to AIA San Francisco and the homeowners for opening these beautiful spaces to the community.

We always say the ultimate engagement is making it onto the pages of The New York Times.

We’re thrilled to see Massachusetts’ Children’s Museum of Franklin, an adaptive reuse project, recognized in its first year of operation and even more excited to see the impact it is already making, welcoming more than 50,000 visitors in just seven months.

Congratulations to everyone behind this incredible institution whose vision, dedication, and hard work brought it to life.

We’re proud to have been part of creating a place where curiosity, creativity, and community can thrive for years to come.
