The new space is a flexible learning environment designed to foster collaboration and support diverse learning needs. We were honored to attend the grand opening of Eagle Meadow Homes in Aurora, Colorado, where we helped welcome 93 families into this newly-completed affordable living community.

As the first phase of a three-building complex, Eagle Meadow Homes was designed in collaboration with non-profit Community Housing Partners (CHP) and provides a combination of 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom units to households between 30-60% of the Area Median Income.

Programmed to maximize residents’ access to nature, the community includes shared gardens, custom nature play areas, picnic areas, and natural walking paths. Swales and xeric plantings are woven into parking areas to soften the hardscape, while a special viewing deck overlooks the nearby Toll Gate Creek Greenway. Additionally, the project is PV-ready and designed for roof-top solar panels to cover the common area utilities.

It was another inspiring year at the Minnesota Association of School Administrators - MASA Fall Conference.

Cuningham proudly presented Mahtomedi Public SchoolsDirector of Teaching and Learning Dr. Jennifer Reichel with the Richard R. Green Scholarship. Her research, “Don’t Waste My Time: Characteristics of Professional Development that Mid-Career Teachers Say They Need,” explores the unique needs of mid-career educators and introduces the Mid-Career Professional Development Design framework to enhance teacher engagement and growth.

Additionally, Cuningham’s Heidi Neumueller and Jennifer Garman facilitated their second annual workshop with the scholars focused on how to leverage post-occupancy evaluations as a tool to measure space, learning, and well-being. Cuningham is excited to continue working with this group, developing and implementing research frameworks that can elevate the learning experience.

Since its inception in 2006, Cuningham has been honored to sponsor the Richard R. Green Scholarship Program, which recognizes and supports excellence in practice-based research by Minnesota school leaders. Join us in congratulating Cuningham’s John Pfluger, who was just elevated to The American Institute of Architects College of Fellows.

The AIA Fellowship is the organization’s highest membership honor and recognizes architects who have made significant contributions to the profession and society. Pfluger’s elevation is a result of his career designing extraordinary spaces that inspire educators to reimagine how they serve communities. Pfluger played a pivotal role in pioneering and refining co-creation—a process that invites community stakeholders to join clients in the design of learning environments through workshops and collaborative design charrettes

With over three decades of leadership in educational projects across North America, Pfluger has influenced learning environments across the nation with schools built in twenty-one states serving hundreds of thousands of students during his career. He has also been instrumental in the development and growth of Cuningham’s K-12 sector work and in creating the firm’s culture of design innovation and commitment to regenerative design.

Cuningham’s Darci Wong delivered an address during the Asian American Architects/Engineers Association(AAa/e) Annual Awards Banquet. As the organization’s outgoing President and Banquet Chair, Darci championed equity, diversity, and inclusion to an audience of over 600 AEC professionals.

Cuningham is a corporate member of the AAa/e and was proud to sponsor this year’s Awards Banquet, supporting student scholarships for those in the AEC industry. It was an honor to attend the event and celebrate firsthand AAa/e’s commitment to empowering professionals working in the built environment in personal and professional growth, business development and networking, and leadership.

Sierra Grande PK-12’s commitment to implementing regenerative design, promoting wellness and physical activity, and fostering equity and inclusion has been recognized with two AIA Colorado awards: the Design Award of Excellence and the Sustainability Recognition Award.

Announced annually, the Design + Honor Awards recognize Colorado architecture firms, projects, and architects that creatively address client needs through beautiful, sustainable, and equitable design.

It is affirming to see that now the UMN and Dunwoody chapters are driving momentum to introduce their peers to our industry outside of universities. Students are asking questions beyond anything we were thinking about at their age.
