☀️ Solar Installers Install Panels. Roofers Waterproof Roofs. 🏠

There is a major difference between properly flashing a solar attachment and simply bolting mounting hardware to the roof and covering it with sealant.

The professional roofing method integrates each solar mount into the roofing system. The flashing is installed beneath the surrounding roofing material so water is directed around the pe*******on and not forced to rely on a bead of caulking to keep the house dry.

Unfortunately, we frequently find the “solar bro” method: surface-mounted hardware, incompatible sealants, excessive mastic and exposed fasteners directly in the water-shedding area of the roof. Sealants can crack, shrink and deteriorate from heat and UV exposure. Once that happens, water can follow the fastener directly into the underlayment, roof deck or home.

Exposed screws are not a permanent waterproofing system.

Improper solar attachments can also damage tiles, compromise the underlayment, create hidden leaks and potentially affect the roof manufacturer’s warranty. The leak may not appear immediately and it can take years before the homeowner notices staining or interior damage.

Before installing photovoltaic or pool solar, have a licensed roofing contractor install or approve the mounting and flashing system. Solar companies understand electrical production. Roofers understand drainage, underlayment, flashing and long-term waterproofing.
