With more than 50 years in the architectural profession and over 35 years leading Salmans + Associates, Kelly J. Salmans brings a depth of experience, perspective, and hands-on involvement to every project. Salmans + Associates is an award-winning architectural design firm with a broad portfolio spanning governmental, institutional, educational, religious, residential, hospitality, retail, mixed-use, high-rise and mid-rise, research and development, assisted living, and custom residential projects. Based in San Diego, California, with a satellite office in Salt Lake City, the firm has completed work across numerous states, including California, Nevada, Utah, Oregon, Wyoming, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, and Tennessee. He believes each project should respond to its own particular circumstances rather than being forced into a predetermined style or solution. Site, program, context, client needs, schedule, and budget all play an important role in shaping the design. This philosophy has allowed Kelly and Salmans + Associates to work across an unusually diverse range of project types and scales while maintaining a consistent commitment to creative, functional, and cost-effective design. The firm's work has received recognition through numerous design awards from organizations including the San Diego and California architectural communities, the American Institute of Architects, the National Endowment for the Arts, and regional home design programs. A defining characteristic of Kelly's practice is personal involvement. From the earliest stages of a project through design development, documentation, and construction administration, he maintains direct involvement and encourages meaningful client participation throughout the process. His goal is straightforward: to understand what each client is trying to accomplish and develop an architectural solution that is both distinctive and practical. After more than five decades in architecture, Kelly continues to approach each project with the same fundamental belief—that good architecture is not about following a formula, but about finding the right solution for the people, place, and circumstances involved.
