We won first place for Best Use of Theme at the San Diego Pride Parade this year and we are still on cloud nine! 🏆🌈 Our giant sun float brought this year’s theme, "Pride Shines On" to life. None of this happens without the incredible family, friends, and team members who showed up and helped make this float a reality this year. We are so grateful for every single one of you! Not all lavender is created equal, and picking the wrong one means fewer flowers, less scent, and a lot of frustration. 💜 French, Spanish, and Sweet Lavender are all solid choices for Southern California, but Merlot Lavender is one that we LOVE! Its variegated foliage makes it look unlike any lavender you've seen before, it pairs beautifully in native landscapes, it’s bulletproof once established, and the scent when you brush up against it is absolutely magnificent.

Ripping out your lawn for synthetic turf feels like a responsible move until you look a little closer. 🔍👀 Artificial turf can get hotter than asphalt, destroys the ecosystem living beneath your soil, and does nothing to support the insects, microorganisms, and habitat that a well planned landscape naturally sustains.

At the end of its life, the outdoor plastic carpet goes straight to a landfill, which means you're not solving the problem, you're actually swapping it for a worse one.

Waiting until fall to plant is the conventional wisdom, but we plant all year round and you can too with these 3 simple steps! 🌱

🌱 Get plants in the ground fast after buying them. Nursery pots will cook your plants alive!
💦 Charge the hole with water before any plants go in. Don’t leave the roots thirsty!
⛱️ Give the plant some shade when needed. You don’t need to get cute with it!

Planting in the heat is really just about managing stress along the way, not avoiding it altogether.

Everyone defaults to citrus or avocado, but there is a whole world of fruit trees worth growing in San Diego. 🌳 The Dwarf Mulberry tops out around 15 feet, can be kept even smaller with pruning, and will fill an entire bucket with fruit for two solid months at peak season. If you have room for a fruit tree, this one deserves serious consideration.

Most people grab whatever rosemary is closest on the shelf, and then wonder why it looks wrong in their yard. 🌿 Uprights like Tuscan Blue work best tucked inside beds, while prostrate varieties are stunning spilling over rock walls. And if you really want to geek out, Gorizia is the most free flowering of them all with big beautiful light blue blooms.
