Yellow Texas Blooms - Beauty with a variety of cultivars
Coreopsis, specifically Lance-leaf Coreopsis, can be identified by the 4 lobes at the tip of its petals. Some cultivars have double blooms and may be different colors. The native plant is yellow and has long leaves that are lance-shaped and opposite one another. Deadhead regularly for consistent blooms.

Yellow Texas Native Blooms - Recognize it?
Zexmenia! If you are thinking of adding it to your Texas native garden, make sure to purchase the Zexmenia (Wedelia texana). This mounding Texas native is drought tolerant, grows to a height of 2-3 ft and a width of 3 ft, and is a host plant to Bordered Patch and Sierran Metalmark butterflies. Great choice to attract pollinators!

Do you know your Texas native yellow flowers?
This is a Rosinweed (Silphium integrifolium), cousin to the Compass plant. Both plants have taproots that grow down to depths of 15 or 16 feet. These are prairie plants that survive droughts and prairie fires. No supplemental watering needed!

Thank you to Working Moms of San Antonio for the invitation to host a Botanical Cocktails Social for members last night! We had a great time learning new recipes using herbs, syrups, and Texas native plants to create yummy libations.
Today, I received a delivery of Liquid Alchemist's Simple Syrup, Orgeat Syrup for Mai Tai drinks, Coconut Syrup to pair with Rum, and HipStirs Lavender Haze and Blackberry Mint. I used the Blackberry Mint and Coconut syrups tonight to create a beachy & citrusy rum cocktail. Making the syrups yourself is a wonderful organic experience, but sometimes you just want a quick quality syrup to save time and cleanup. That's where these distinct syrups come in handy. Contact me to learn more about Botanical Cocktails. 🍹

Proof is on the leaf! 🌿

We had an exciting sighting in the Learning Garden this week: Monarch and Queen butterfly caterpillars! It’s late November, and San Antonio's continued warm weather is causing a welcomed albeit precarious late-season phenomenon.

These little guys are attempting to complete their lifecycle and form chrysalises, a clear sign that they are finding the perfect host plants right here in our garden.

While we know a sudden cold snap might impact their survival, their presence is the best confirmation that our efforts to cultivate pollinator-friendly plants are working! We are providing the essential resources for these beautiful insects.

Come visit the Learning Garden at 6800 Wurzbach Rd to see what other late-season activity you can spot!

What wildlife sightings have you had this November? Let us know in the comments! 👇
