The stinging pests have definitely kept us busy this year! 🐝 We’ve had call after call for wasps, yellow jackets, hornets and just about everything else with a stinger.

But this deserved a little extra attention. This red wasp nest isn’t just HUGE—it’s a two-story! 😂

Our technicians see a lot of interesting things in the field, but every once in a while, somebody brings something really cool back to the office that makes the whole team stop and take a look.

If it stings, buzzes or builds a condo where it doesn’t belong… give Witten Pest Control a call.

🐜 TERMITES… OR ANTS? Before you panic, take a closer look!

We’ve received a TON of calls over the last few weeks from homeowners worried they’re seeing termite swarmers. The good news? In many cases, what they’re actually seeing are swarming ants.

So, what are swarming ants? They’re winged reproductive ants that leave an established colony to mate and begin new colonies. Certain weather conditions can trigger large numbers to appear seemingly overnight—and when they suddenly show up around windows, doors, patios or lights, it’s easy to mistake them for termites.

There are a few easy ways to tell the difference:

🐜 Ants: Elbowed antennae, narrow “pinched” waist and two pairs of different-sized wings.
🪵 Termites: Straight antennae, thicker waist and two pairs of wings that are approximately the same size.

Hopefully, our handy little graphic helps alleviate some fears! But whether you’re dealing with ants or termites, proper identification is key. Different pests require different products, treatment methods and strategies. Treating the wrong insect with the wrong product can waste time and money—and may not solve the problem.

After serving our community for over 75 years, we know our bugs! If you’re not sure what’s crawling, flying or swarming around your home, give Witten Pest Control a call. We’ll help you figure out what you’re dealing with and recommend the right solution.

🐜 ANTS, ANTS & MORE ANTS! It’s that time of year in South Texas! 🐜

Our phones have been busy with customers seeing ants—and lots of them! After all the rain we had earlier followed by the hot, dry weather we’ve been experiencing lately, ants of all varieties are on the move, trailing around homes and yards and often searching for one very important thing: WATER!

The tricky thing about ants is that once they become established, they can be surprisingly difficult to control. A mature colony may contain thousands of ants, and some species can establish multiple colonies and multiple queens. What looks like a simple trail across the kitchen counter or patio may be only a tiny portion of what’s actually there.

And in South Texas, an ant is definitely NOT just an ant!

We deal with many different varieties, including fire ants, carpenter ants, crazy ants, acrobat ants, odorous house ants and several others. Their nesting habits, food preferences and behavior can be very different—which means identification is key. The treatment and materials that work well for one species may not be the best choice for another.

Ant control can also require a little patience. The goal isn’t simply to kill the ants you can see; it’s to reduce or eliminate the colony behind them. Depending on the species and how established the population has become, that can take some time.

So, if you suddenly feel like the ants are marching across South Texas and straight into your yard or home—you’re definitely not alone!

Give Witten Pest Control a call and let us help identify what you’re dealing with and determine the best approach to getting those populations under control.

And we’d especially like to minimize the ants that can deliver a punch the size of Texas when they bite or sting!

All of the new home construction popping up around San Antonio and the surrounding areas is exciting... but it's also creating pest havoc for new homeowners and the surrounding neighborhoods.

As land is cleared, scorpions, spiders, wasps, ants, and other pests are suddenly forced to pack up and look for new places to live, eat, and hide. Unfortunately, that often means your home becomes the next stop on their moving route!

Don't wait until they're unpacked. A strong pest protection barrier now can help stop today's invaders while preventing future problems as construction continues.

☎️ Call Witten Pest Control today at 210-333-5540 and let our family protect yours—because when the pests move in... we move them right back out!

At Witten Pest Control, we've always believed that pets aren't "just animals"—they're family. ❤️🐾

For generations, we've had the privilege of protecting homes, but many of you also know our hearts have always belonged to animals. We are proud advocates for animal welfare, and because of that, we understand the love, joy, and companionship that dogs and cats bring into our lives.

We know what it's like to have a pet that's more than a pet—they're a cherished member of the family. Their wagging tails, gentle purrs, and unconditional love make a house feel like home.

As you celebrate July 4th, please remember that fireworks can be terrifying for many pets. A frightened dog or cat can panic and escape in just seconds.

A few simple steps can make all the difference:
🐾 Keep pets safely indoors before fireworks begin.
🐾 Make sure collars and ID tags are current.
🐾 Create a quiet, comfortable space inside your home.
🐾 Turn on a TV or soft music to help mask the noise.
🐾 Never assume your pet "will be fine" this year.

Every July 4th, shelters become overwhelmed with lost pets. We don't want your beloved family member to become one of those heartbreaking statistics.

From all of us at Witten Pest Control, we wish you, your family, and your four-legged family members a safe, peaceful, and Happy July 4th! 🇺🇸❤️🐶🐱

Because protecting families includes protecting the furry ones, too.

❄️ South Texas winter myth: cold weather gets rid of pests.
Truth? It just sends them looking for shelter—and your home or office is prime real estate.

When temperatures drop (even briefly), pests don’t disappear. They squeeze into cracks, walls, attics, and garages, settling in until warmer days return. Winter isn’t a break from pests—it’s when they quietly move in. While temperatures may dip well below freezing, it doesn't stay cold for long enough to send them to bug heaven.

Call Witten Pest Control for your winter pest service. With over 70 years of experience, we know South Texas pests—and how to get rid of them.

🐞 Ladybugs vs. Asian Lady Beetles (a.k.a. Ladybug Imposters!) 🐞

Hey neighbors! 👋 It’s that time of year again when we start seeing Asian Lady Beetles soaking up the sun on windows, siding, and sun-drenched walls—and sometimes in massive numbers. While they may look like sweet little ladybugs, these guys are definitely the imposters of the bunch.

Here’s the scoop:

Ladybugs = passive, beneficial, and just minding their business.

Asian Lady Beetles = not so sweet 😬 (and definitely no-touchy unless you want what feels like a pin-prick bite)

As shown in the photo, there are some clear physical differences, but behavior is also a real giveaway. Asian Lady Beetles love to sneak inside through tiny cracks and crevices, especially when populations explode—and yes, they can show up by the hundreds.

🚫 DIY Tip for our do-it-yourselfers:
Spraying these beetles directly usually just adds unnecessary chemicals to your environment and does little to fix the real issue. The key is:
✔ Sealing cracks and crevices
✔ Proper indoor crack & crevice treatment
✔ A thorough exterior perimeter treatment

🐶 Pet parents—please note:
If Asian Lady Beetles are ingested in large amounts or get stuck in a dog’s mouth, their defensive fluid can cause irritation or even make pets sick.

For Asian Lady Beetle control—or any other pests that bug you—you know who to call for reliable, knowledgeable, affordable pest control…
