VHS Outdoor Living

VHS Outdoor Living Creating beautiful outdoor spaces is our specialty. If it lives outside, we build it to last. Chris Verme, our founder, was born and raised in San Antonio.

Our expert team will work with you every step of the way to bring your vision to life with artistic design and quality craftsmanship. He’s always loved being outdoors, growing things, building things, and turning spaces into something beautiful. In 1996, he started VHS with a mower, a shovel, and a mission to help his neighbors care for their yards. What began as simple landscape maintenance quick

ly grew. By 1999, VHS became a full-service landscaping company. Today, we offer everything from landscape design to decks and fences, rainwater harvesting, generators, sheds, plunge pools, and complete outdoor transformations. While the company has grown, our values haven’t changed. Chris is still hands-on, and he still believes in doing things the right way the first time. That same commitment to quality runs through every crew member, many of whom have been with us for years. We work with experienced craftspeople who take pride in their work. We use trusted materials, proven processes. Whether you're building an outdoor kitchen or reimagining your entire yard, VHS makes it easier. We're your one-stop outdoor contractor so you don’t have to juggle vendors or manage the details alone. We’re proud to serve the San Antonio area and proud of every project we leave behind.

This yard had a problem coming from next door. The neighboring home sits higher, so every heavy rain sent their runoff rushing straight into our client’s backyard.

Before pouring this large concrete patio around the pool, we planned for where all that water needed to go. We installed drainage pipes beneath the concrete to catch the runoff and move it through the property instead of letting it collect in the yard.

Because a beautiful backyard isn’t much fun when it turns into a muddy mess every time it rains.

We built this cedar fence to complement the modern style of the house, then stained it to help protect the wood and keep it looking good longer. Behind the cedar, metal posts give it a stronger foundation without the worry of wood posts eventually rotting out. What can we build for you? Book a consultation on our website today.

Designing a landscape in Timberwood Park means keeping the neighbors in mind. And sometimes, the neighbors have four legs and show up for breakfast.

Deer regularly wander through this family’s front yard, so plant selection was an important part of the design from the beginning. We chose a mix of interesting, Texas-friendly plants that add color, texture, and variety without turning the landscape into a deer buffet.

More than a year after installation, the landscape is filling in beautifully. There’s no such thing as a completely deer-proof plant, but knowing what tends to perform well in a particular area can make a big difference. That’s where experience comes in. We design landscapes around more than how they’ll look on installation day. We consider the conditions of your property, how you want to maintain it, and, yes, sometimes who might be wandering through your yard at night.

If you’re planning a new landscape in Timberwood Park or the San Antonio area, we can help you make plant choices that make sense for where you live.

An elevated outdoor space doesn’t have to be overly complicated.

4x2 cut limestone, synthetic turf, small retaining wall to level it out. Simple materials, intentional layout, and now there’s a whole second place to be outside.

Drainage may not be glamorous, but a flooded side yard is worse.

In many neighborhoods homes are built 10 feet apart, so two houses worth of water, from the roof, gutters, driveway, all ends up in one tiny side yard with nowhere to go.

The fix? A 12-inch catch basin at the low point of the driveway, gutters that go straight underground, and a system that moves all of it out to the back of the property before it ever becomes your problem.

We’ve done this on several homes in this neighborhood. The side yards stay dry. The plants stay happy. And nobody’s wading through the side yard anymore.

Got a soggy spot that’s been bugging you? We’d love to talk to you about it. Book a consultation on our website today.

Can you see family gatherings where Phase 10 or Uno will be played for hours under this fun pavilion? The patio is a poured concrete slab, capped in flagstone. The pergola is an all cedar structure with matching composition roofing shingles. To bring everything together, we installed brick half columns at each of the four corners. Integrated lighting will ensure that this space is just as function in the evenings as it is during the day.

This is what happens when you stop fighting the slope and start designing with it. Terracing can completely transform a difficult yard by creating usable levels, improving drainage, reducing erosion, and making the entire space feel more intentional.

A steep backyard doesn’t have to be wasted space.

Some builds are pretty straightforward… this wasn’t one of them.

The rooflines made things tricky, tying everything into the existing home took planning, and the custom glass doors added another layer to figure out. It was one of those projects where every step had to be intentional.

The finished space brings together natural light and the richness of western red cedar, creating a sunroom that feels warm, open, and is built to last.

This yard had some major slope and drainage challenges, but with retaining walls, layered planter beds, and integrated drainage, we were able to transform both the look and function of the space.

Now the yard feels clean, modern, textured, and much more intentional, with great curb appeal.

Good landscaping isn’t just about adding plants. Sometimes it’s about reshaping the way a yard functions so the entire space feels finished, usable, and cohesive.
