Why are there little rocks in my gutters?
If you have an asphalt shingle roof, those little rocks are usually protective mineral granules that have come off the surface of the shingles.
This photo was taken during one of our roof inspections. It is not a Rhino Roofers installation, but it illustrates a question we hear from homeowners all the time.
Seeing a small amount of granules is usually normal, especially as a roof ages. What matters is how much you're finding, whether the amount suddenly increased after a storm, the age of the roof, and the overall condition of the shingles.
A few granules in the gutter don't automatically mean you need a new roof. But if you're noticing a significant increase or other signs of roof damage, it's worth having the roof inspected to understand what's causing it before making any decisions.
Because the details matter.
