When the clients first spoke with us, they described a collection that was part of daily life: paintings, sculpture, and furniture gathered over time. The design of Miranda Ridge Residence began by deciding where those pieces would live - and how each one would be discovered.

Rather than treating art as decoration added at the end, the plan was organized around deliberate sightlines, wall proportions, changes in ceiling height, and moments of pause. Some pieces anchor a room; others appear at the end of a corridor or across the open living space. The house became a sequence of encounters with the collection.

Material is part of Echo Meadow Lane Residence's response to its setting. Vertical wood cladding gives warmth and scale, meeting the triangular stair volume in a deliberate shift of texture. A corrugated aluminum-zinc metal skin wraps the exterior for durability, lifting at one corner to lighten the mass. Gravel beneath the carport and restrained steel details keep the house modern without losing the feeling of being in the country.

Echo Meadow Lane Residence is organized between two conditions. At the front, a corrugated aluminum-zinc skin and projecting steel-plate canopies form a protective shell against sun and rain. At the rear, floor-to-ceiling glazing opens the interior toward the wooded reserve, a landscape intended to remain untouched. The plan is not transferable to another site; its circulation, views, and orientation belong to this one.

At Echo Meadow Lane Residence, the architecture begins before the front door. Located at Canyon Lake with access to a boat ramp, the house is approached on foot through the existing trees, allowing the landscape to shape the transition from arrival to entry. The massing was developed specifically for this wooded setting: more protective toward the road and more open toward the preserved forest behind.

The footprint of High Chapel ADU is approximately 23'-0" x 18'-3" - just under 420 square feet per level. By building vertically, the project creates approximately 840 gross square feet across two independent studio suites while keeping its impact on the site remarkably small.

High Chapel ADU was planned for changing needs over time. The ground-floor suite provides a complete sleeping and living space with a full bath on one level, including a curbless shower with an overhead rain shower. The detail removes a small but important barrier for an older resident or anyone who benefits from easier access, without giving the space an institutional character.

It is a compact architectural response for households that need a first-floor bedroom without sacrificing independence or privacy.
