Pros and cons
Like any building material, marble has both positive and negative aspects to its use.
First, let's list the advantages of natural marble:
The plasticity of marble makes it easy and efficient to work with.
The strength of its internal structure. During processing (polishing, cutting, drilling), the material retains its integrity, without changing its properties. Mechanical action does not lead to the formation of internal cracks, fractures and delaminations. Many people are surprised that it is possible to create incredibly complex and sophisticated bas-reliefs, frescoes and figures out of marble.
The incredible durability of natural marble allows us to claim that it is put "for the ages". According to responses of people who use marble facing, this material is not subject to any temporary changes, keeping its original look for decades. Marble will never turn yellow, even being outdoors all the time.
Low water absorption entails high frost resistance of natural marble.
Over time, marble does not change its structure, that is, it does not become loose or brittle.
The material is resistant to corrosive chemicals.
Marble is absolutely safe in all respects. There are no emissions, even when the stone is heated. The material does not conduct electricity and does not accumulate static charges. Marble is perfectly suitable for finishing floors in many damp rooms.
Bactericidal properties of natural marble are scientifically proved. No bacteria will accumulate on the stone surface. The air in a room finished with marble will never be stale or stagnant. It is said that if used in the bathroom or in the bath, marble helps to create the perfect microclimate in the room, which is comfortable for people.
The high eco-friendliness of the stone, coming from its all-natural origin.
It is impossible not to mention the disadvantages of natural marble:
Marble is not recommended as a floor covering in areas with busy human passageways. Abundance of dust and abrasive particles can quickly lead to the unsightly appearance of the marble surface.
The material is not resistant to acids, even food acids. It may gradually deteriorate from their effect.
Due to the fact that marble is heterogeneous in structure and shades, it is difficult to choose the same colour for finishing relatively large areas.
In general, evaluations by people who have been using marble panelling or similar products for some time are almost always positive. After all, what can compare with the beauty of nature itself!
