There’s This River – Grand Canyon Boatman Stories by Christa Sadler
It’s June, and river season is a-rollin’! In celebration of peak guiding season, the Worm presents “There’s This River…” by Christa Sadler, a priceless collection of Grand Canyon boatman stories about the best (and the worst) moments of a guide’s life. Each story is a well-worn river stone, lovingly polished by countless retellings. These are the stories that boatmen swap on the boats after dinner, the stories that guests want to hear when they ask, “What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen on the river?” The name on each piece is a Grand Canyon legend in their own right: Rebecca Lawton, Larry Stevens, Ellen Tibbets, Brad Dimock. Photography, watercolor, pencil sketches, and other artwork is scattered throughout. The geographic setting of Grand Canyon is almost incidental. It’s the people and the events that shine—and the river, always the river. Each piece is short and sweet, full of disaster and triumph, magic and misadventure, heroes and highwater.
