The San Diego AIA Conference offered a valuable chance to step back from the day-to-day and reflect on where the practice of architecture is headed, particularly through sessions and conversations on community outreach, AI technology, sustainability, and adaptive reuse. These themes felt especially relevant to the work we do every day, where we're helping clients make thoughtful decisions, extending the life of existing buildings, and responding to changing needs with practical, forward-looking design.
What stood out most was hearing from architects across the country about the realities of practice today, from how teams are adapting and where technology is creating new opportunities, to how design can continue to serve communities in more meaningful ways. I'm returning with a useful perspective, a few good questions, and a renewed appreciation for the collaborative, curious, and purpose-driven work we're building toward.
