If you’re working with water-based paint and it feels too thick, remember: thin it with clean water, not paint thinner. Water-based paint is designed to be adjusted with water so its chemistry stays balanced. Adding mineral spirits or mineral-based thinners can lead to uneven coverage and dull, poor results. If your paint roller feels like it’s fighting you every time, try checking which way it’s facing. Most roller frames have a front and back—if the open side is leading, the roller can twist and pull against you. Flip it so the open side trails behind. Good news: this water damage is dry. Bad news: dry doesn’t mean fixed. When drywall and wood dry out, the moisture leaves behind stains, weakened drywall, swollen trim, and peeling paint—and paint over it can allow stains to bleed through again. At Mtn Valley Painting, we repair the damaged areas, sand smooth, and use the right primer so the finish holds and the damage isn’t visible.
