A police station can be more than a place to work - it can be a welcome. For the growing Town of Millsboro, that's exactly what we set out to design.

Having served as the architects and engineers behind Millsboro Town Hall, DBF was honored to be entrusted with the town's new police station - a major step up from the existing 4,000-square-foot facility to a new 16,700-square-foot home built for a community on the rise.

The location says it all. The station sits on a gateway site at the heart of downtown, welcoming most travelers heading to and from the beach resorts to the east. As visitors cross the Indian River and approach along Main Street, this new civic building will greet them - a fitting front door for Millsboro.

We designed it with that spirit in mind. In keeping with the department's community-policing approach, the building is meant to feel open and welcoming rather than closed off. And to honor the town's roots, its design echoes Millsboro's history as a mill town — a cluster of smaller building forms that recall the mills that once defined the area, so the station feels like it belongs exactly where it stands.

Behind that welcoming face is a thoughtfully organized facility built to serve the officers who protect Millsboro every day and designed to support the department's continued growth and its standards of excellence for years to come.

Nobody plans a trip to the animal ER. That's exactly why this building matters.

When Pet's ER set out to build a new emergency clinic for the Salisbury area, the goal went beyond square footage - it was about designing for the hardest moments pet families face. DBF worked closely with their team to create a facility that's easy to find when every minute counts, and calming to walk into when emotions are running high.

Behind the welcoming waiting area is a clinic built for serious medicine: two surgery suites with recovery rooms, three exam rooms, a full treatment area, in-house lab and x-ray, and dedicated spaces for cats and sick animals - all tailored to the way the Pet's ER team actually works.

Because when a community's pets are family, the place that cares for them should feel like it was built with love. It was.

Meet Payton Bridge, AIA - Senior Architect and Associate at DBF's Salisbury office. A Salisbury native, Payton left the Eastern Shore for college and seven years of work "across the bridge" before coming home for good - because he always knew he would. Since joining DBF in 2021, he's grown from Architect to Senior Architect and Associate, earning license reciprocity in Maryland and Delaware along the way. Today, some of his proudest works - the Junior Achievement Center and the Rehoboth Beach Patrol building - sit in the community he grew up in.
