🔥 Heat + Electricity = One of the Biggest Summer Fire Risks 🔥

As temperatures climb, so does the strain on your home’s electrical system. Every summer, electricians see the same preventable issues caused by overloaded circuits and improperly installed window A/C units.

If you’re installing a window air conditioner, here’s what to check first:

✅ Use a dedicated outlet whenever possible. Window units draw significant current and shouldn’t share a circuit with other high-demand appliances.

✅ Never use an extension cord or power strip. Most are not designed to handle the continuous load of an air conditioner and can overheat.

✅ Inspect the outlet before plugging it in.
Look for:

* Loose plugs that don’t hold firmly
* Burn marks or discoloration
* Cracked faceplates
* A warm outlet after use

These are warning signs that need immediate attention.

✅ Know your breaker size.
A larger A/C doesn’t always mean your electrical system can safely support it. Frequent breaker trips are a warning—not an inconvenience to ignore.

✅ Check your cord.
If the plug or cord feels hot, smells like melting plastic, or shows damage, unplug it immediately.

✅ Don’t ignore flickering lights.
Lights dimming when the A/C starts can indicate a heavily loaded circuit or voltage drop that should be evaluated.
