In 1956, Gerhard Dallwig came to the United States as an 18 year old German immigrant. He couldn’t speak English, and he had few job skills. Within his first year in the U.S., he got married to his wife Susan and was drafted into the military, where he learned how to speak English. Gerhard and Susan didn’t have much, but he knew that in America, he had the opportunity to do whatever he wanted. He

wanted to achieve the American dream, and he did. Gerhard started his career in the building supply business working for local contractors. When he started Dallwig Brothers Building Supply, he had only a few employees and just a couple of the oldest, cheapest trucks he could find. They couldn’t afford real desks, so they bought some old doors that they transformed into desks. Today, Dallwig Brothers has over 40 employees, several brand new trucks, and real desks. Currently, three generations of Dallwigs work at the office. The family and staff at Dallwig Brothers care about other people. The reason we love what we do is because we care about those we do business with, and we want to see them be successful and do great things. We’ve been doing business with many of the same folks for several years, and we love it when they stop by the office just to chat. We are very proud of the great relationships we’ve built over the years. Dallwig Brothers has been family owned and operated for 35 years now. We’re still just a mom and pop business, the only small business of this kind in the area. We work with both homeowners and contractors, and we provide materials for drywall and roofing jobs. As we wake up today on a beautiful summer morning, we celebrate our great nation’s birthday. Happy Birthday, America. You are beautiful.

We pray that we are blessed with another 250 years of greatness, but this can only be accomplished if we pray and ask for grace and wisdom. We are not a perfect nation, but we were perfectly created by our God. We thank Him for our flag that we proudly stand for, and for the cross that we humbly kneel before.

We are humbled, yet proud and loud, to be Americans.

President Kennedy said it best: “Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country.”

It’s simple: offer an honest smile, be kind and compassionate, help those in need, and be slow to judge.

Stand tall and proud. Live not in fear, but in freedom.

May this birthday celebration be a time of joy, happiness, harmony, and reflection.
