One thing I’ve learned raising livestock is that no matter how much you prepare, monitor, research, and love your animals… things can still go wrong. And when they do, it weighs on you heavily.

As a nurse, I am constantly watching for changes, trying to catch things early, asking questions, monitoring symptoms, and wanting to act quickly because I know early intervention matters. But livestock are complicated. They hide illness well, and sometimes even when you think you’re ahead of it, you realize how fast things can change.

That’s why having an incredible vet matters so much. Dr. Berr at Country Creatures Veterinary Care and her team have truly become more than just our large animal vet team — they have been counselors, educators, and a huge support system for me. They answer my endless texts, look at pictures, talk me through concerns, reassure me when I’m spiraling, and guide me when I hit my breaking point and lose sleep worrying over these animals.

My anxiety and worry are not their responsibility, but they still show up with patience and compassion every single time. From helping with illnesses and ultrasounds on-site to even shaving my sheep when I was terrified he was overheating, they go above and beyond for both the animals and the people who love them.

I never want to let people down, and I take the responsibility of caring for these animals very seriously — whether they are staying here with us or preparing for their new homes. Everything I do is centered around their health, safety, and well-being. And when something doesn’t go perfectly, I reevaluate everything and lean into people who know more than me so I can continue learning and improving.

If you own livestock, my biggest advice is this: find a vet who lets you advocate for your animals, who takes your concerns seriously, and who helps you act quickly when something feels off. Early care matters. A good vet is priceless.

If you’re in the Upstate SC area and looking for a large animal vet, I cannot recommend Dr. Berr enough. She’s based in Pendleton and travels throughout the surrounding area. We are incredibly thankful for her and her team. ❤️

My fancy little lamb Simon is teaching me that every species comes with its own learning curve 😂🐑

Simon is an F1 Valais x Babydoll and 100% my spoiled pet. Today I went to give him his anti-inflammatory medicine after being wethered and this little man accidentally BIT me. Not aggressively… just enthusiastically chomped down while taking the pills 😅

And let me tell you… lamb teeth are SHARP. I had no idea. Definitely sharper than my goats!

He’s also currently rocking a full poodle haircut because this fluffy boy was absolutely miserable in the heat. Who knew sheep grooming would become part of my life?

One thing farming and raising different livestock animals keeps teaching me is that every animal has such specific care needs. It can honestly feel overwhelming sometimes constantly learning, adjusting, worrying, researching, and trying to do right by them all.

But then they look at you with their sweet little faces, follow you around like puppies, and completely steal your heart. That’s the balance I guess… the work and the worry mixed with the joy they bring ❤️

Well, that’s a wrap on the Spring Oconee Farm Crawl. ❤️ Oconee Farm Crawl

We are absolutely exhausted… and honestly, so are our livestock. But what a rewarding experience it has been to open our gates and share years of hard work with so many people.

This life is beautiful, but it is not easy.

Most days start early in the morning and end late at night. There is constant worrying, adjusting, learning, planning, and praying. Livestock will test your perseverance in ways you never imagined. Along the way there have been injuries, broken bones, loss, heartbreak, stress, and moments where we questioned ourselves completely.

But there have also been joyful days.
Celebrations.
Peaceful sunsets.
Healthy babies.
Laughter.
New friendships.
Customers who become family.
And moments that remind us exactly why we chose this life.

Farming and livestock are more than animals — it’s a people business too. You form relationships, most incredibly rewarding and some very challenging, but every interaction teaches you something if you’re willing to learn.

We love welcoming people in to see what we do, how we do it, and why we care so deeply. Educating, sharing, and continuing to learn together is what keeps this industry moving forward.

At the end of the day, as long as we keep learning, growing, and striving to live a little better each day… it is all worth it.

Thank you to everyone who came out, supported us, encouraged us, and spent part of your weekend with Seven Daugherty Farm. We are grateful beyond words. 🤍

Thank you to all the volunteers who joined us!!! You are incredible. 🥰

We are offering a limited number of Ohno x Karin embryo babies this year. This line has been perfected and proven to mature as true miniatures with loads of hair. They are premium in all ways including price, but if your goals are small these calves will be worth the add to your herd. 🤩

Ohno x Karin ✨

Meet Clara 🤍

This beautiful girl is already reserved and claimed, but we are so excited about this pairing and what it means for the future of our program. We will have a few more opportunities throughout the year using embryos from this cross and cannot wait to watch these babies develop.

These decisions are never made lightly — structure, temperament, genetics, and long-term goals all matter deeply to us as we continue to thoughtfully grow our program.

If you’re interested in future opportunities, please reach out to Lindsey Daugherty for more information. 🤍

We just got an update picture of Maddox, one our calves from last year 🤍

Those little legs behind him belong to his best friend, Madison, and seeing updates like this truly makes our hearts so full.

Last year we helped so many calves find incredible homes, and getting to watch them grow up loved, spoiled, and part of families is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. 🐮❤️
