**The Day Salem Changed Forever**

On April 25, 1935, a fire broke out inside Oregon's State Capitol building. What started as smoke in the early evening quickly turned into one of the most significant disasters in Salem's history.

As the fire spread through the building, thousands of residents gathered downtown to watch. Firefighters battled the blaze for hours, but the Capitol's wooden interior and concealed spaces allowed the flames to move rapidly through the structure. Eventually, the building's iconic dome collapsed, sending debris crashing into the rotunda below.

By morning, much of the Capitol had been destroyed.

Investigators never conclusively determined the cause of the fire, and nearly a century later the exact origin remains uncertain.

While the loss was devastating, it also marked the beginning of a new chapter. Oregon leaders quickly moved forward with plans for a replacement, and the Capitol building we know today was completed in 1938. Its Art Deco design, marble finishes, and the gold Oregon Pioneer statue atop the dome would become some of the state's most recognizable landmarks.

For many Oregonians, the Capitol is simply part of the skyline. But for those who witnessed the fire in 1935, it represented the loss of a symbol that had stood at the heart of Salem for generations.

No one trade builds a building.

It takes electricians, HVAC technicians, plumbers, framers, engineers, inspectors, project managers, and countless others working toward the same goal.

When trades communicate, collaborate, and respect each other's expertise, great things happen.

The finished project may belong to one owner, but it takes an entire team to bring it to life.

Every trade matters.

What's the most important system in this building?

The HVAC?

The lighting?

The security system?

The elevators?

The truth is, none of them work without reliable electrical infrastructure behind them.

A modern building is a lot more than four walls and a roof.

On National HVAC Tech Day, we'd like to give a shoutout to the technicians who keep Oregon's homes and businesses comfortable through every season.

From apartment complexes and office parks to retail centers and hospitality properties, charging infrastructure is becoming part of the conversation when planning upgrades and future development.

As expectations change, many property owners are looking for ways to keep their facilities competitive, convenient, and ready for the future.

The future is charging.
