Building an ADU over an existing garage might seem like the easiest way to save time and money — but that isn’t always the case.

We sat down with Matteo Carpani, Operations Manager at CASK, to talk through what homeowners should consider when deciding whether to retrofit an existing garage or demolish and rebuild from the ground up.

There’s a lot you don’t see in the finished photo. By the time the cabinetry is installed, the floors are down, the walls are painted, and the fixtures are in place, much of the work that went into creating the space has disappeared from view.

Behind this finished ADU were months of planning, site work, framing, rough-ins, inspections, coordination, and skilled trades working through every phase of the build.
