Recently I looked out my window and saw something that initially seemed strange: Two people I hadn’t met before, holding a bowl and pointing at some of our plants. Hmm. Plant robbers? Mulberry foragers? I opened the front door, walked outside, and introduced myself with a smile.
Surprise! Turns out these sweet peeps were fellow plant-loving neighbors, come to visit our milkweed and drop off a few of their caterpillars bc their 🌱 supply was running low and they didn’t want the 🐛 to go hungry. What amazing humans! 🤩 I knew as soon as they explained (and told me they had permission from my Dad, who they met recently) that these are my people, y’all! I remember our first couple of seasons here when we were SO excited to finally see caterpillars on our milkweed, but then felt SO badly when we realized how much they were eating and how little milkweed was left for them as they continued to grow and eat.
We have tons of milkweed now, some native and some not (we are introducing more natives!), and grateful to have plenty to share!! Happy to meet others in our community who care for and love wildlife, too.
