Look closely at the corner of this roofline. The shingles are sagging over the edge with nothing supporting them, the fascia board behind the gutter is bare and starting to rot, and the gutter isn't sitting tight against the house anymore. Problems like this start small. Water runs behind the gutter instead of into it, soaks the wood, and keeps spreading into the roof decking and the walls. Roof edges and gutters are easy to miss from the yard, so next time you're outside, take a look up at your corners. If anything looks droopy, stained, or loose, ACI can take a closer look.

🌩️ Hail damage isn’t always obvious from the ground.

During this roof inspection, we found and documented multiple areas of hail impact damage on the shingles. The marked spots in this photo show where impacts have disturbed the protective granule surface of the shingle.

Damage like this can shorten the life of a roof and may eventually leave the roofing system more vulnerable to water intrusion, which is why a close, hands-on inspection matters after a significant storm.

🏠 Sometimes the most important parts of a roof inspection are the details around everything that comes through the roof.
On this property, we took a close look at the chimney, flashing, vents, and surrounding shingles. These transition points are some of the first places we check because even a relatively small issue with flashing or a roof pe*******on can create a path for water.
The shingles themselves are only one part of the roofing system. A thorough inspection means checking how all of these components work together to keep the home protected.

🍂 A good roof inspection is about more than just checking the shingles.
On this project, we found leaves, vines, and other debris collecting along the roofline and gutters. Areas like this can hold moisture and interfere with proper drainage, so they’re important to catch before they lead to bigger issues.
It’s one of the reasons we take a close look at the entire roofing system—not just the most obvious areas.

You never really know what’s hiding underneath an old roof until the shingles come off.
This is a good example of bad roof decking that needed to be replaced before the new roofing system could go on. Soft, rotted, or deteriorated plywood doesn’t provide a solid surface for new shingles—and simply covering it up is asking for problems down the road.
When we find damaged decking during a tear-off, we remove the bad material and replace it with solid new decking before moving forward.
A new roof is only as good as what’s underneath it.

O'Fallon took a hit last night. We're already getting calls about downed trees, bent shingles, and debris everywhere. If your roof caught any of that wind, it might not be obvious from the ground — but lifted and bent shingles lose their seal and that's where water gets in the next time it rains.
