Accessibility works best when it's part of the plan from day one, not a fix added at the end.
In commercial construction, the details that make a building usable for everyone are decided early: accessible routes from the parking lot, entrance widths and door hardware, restroom layouts, counter heights, and clear paths of travel through the space. When those items are worked out during planning and design, they fit naturally into the building. When they're caught late, they often mean rework, added cost, and schedule delays.
That's one advantage of a design-build approach. With design and construction under one team, accessibility requirements are coordinated alongside structure, systems, and finishes instead of being handed off between vendors.
BBi Constructors has been building commercial spaces since 2005, including self-storage, flex space, industrial, retail, and corporate buildings. If you're planning a project, we'd be glad to talk through how accessible design fits your site and your goals.
