to the step nobody sees once a new floor goes in. 🪣

Before any flooring went down on this past project in Grant, we mixed self-leveling underlayment bucket by bucket and poured it across the subfloor.
It spread out and settled into a smooth, flat base, so the finished floor would lie flat with no dips or humps.
It's hidden under the floor for good, but it's one of those steps that makes everything on top look right.

Before a new roof can go on, everything else has to come off. 🧰
Back on the rooftop playground at this Minneapolis school: the old roof has been fully removed, and the exterior gates along the ledges are off too. That gives us a clean, open deck to prep for the new roofing and siding.
Next up is the install, and then the kids get their rooftop back. 🛝

Pulled from the archives: two Minneapolis kitchens we finished, and they couldn't be more different. 🗳️

A: Warm stained-wood cabinets, a scalloped mosaic backsplash and granite counters wrapped around a big double window.
B: Crisp white shaker cabinets, a stacked white tile backsplash, black appliances and a live-edge wood island with a built-in w**e rack.

Same city, totally different personalities.

Tip Tuesday, with a throwback photo from a past entrance remodel we finished. ❄️

Ever notice a chalky white film on the floor by the door every winter? That's road salt, tracked in one boot at a time.

Our tip: put a sturdy walk-off mat both outside and just inside each entrance before the first snow. Then wipe up salt residue with a damp mop instead of letting it dry and grind in. It goes a long way toward protecting tile, grout and wood floors. 🥾

We finished this entry with large-format marble-look tile, the kind of floor that's worth protecting from the first snowfall on.

Every good project starts with a tape measure and a plan. 📏
Our project manager Adam met with a homeowner in Afton this morning to map out a new egress window for their basement. He measured inside, checked the outside wall and talked through where the window well will sit next to the stone landscaping.
An egress window brings in natural light and gives the room a safe way out in an emergency, so it's a big upgrade for any lower level. 🪟
