During project development, ideas start to take shape through color, texture, materials and the thoughtful details that bring character to an old home.

It’s where the vision becomes more tangible and the pieces begin to come together around how you want your home to look, feel and function.

Behind the scenes!
A recent photoshoot with photographer TroyThies at this net-zero energy home remodel. It’s a great example of rethinking an older home from the inside out, improving energy efficiency while preserving the character that makes it special.
It took a talented team with different areas of expertise to bring the project together:

A porch can become a true extension of your home—bright, airy, and connected to nature without being exposed to the elements.

We’re sharing a few examples from different homes that show how a thoughtful porch update can completely change the way the space is used.

Recently, we celebrated two milestone work anniversaries.

Our field crew plays a big part in bringing every project to life, and we’re grateful for the experience and craftsmanship they bring to their work every day.

Cheers to 13 years for Leaf and 9 years for Jacob!

What Makes Remodeling an Old Home Different?

You're not just designing a new space. You're working with decades of history, existing construction, and architectural details worth preserving.

Understanding how all those pieces fit together is what makes old home remodeling unique.

We value the Art of the Process.

Every step matters in milling these era-specific rafter tails. These are the details that give character to a home remodel.

Say hello to Preston!

One of the newer faces on our team, Preston recently joined the team in the field. His love for woodworking started at a young age, creating intricate intarsia art before progressing to furniture building and custom woodworking. After graduating from South Central College's carpentry program, he spent five years remodeling and building homes, developing a particular appreciation for older homes along the way.

We're excited to have him on the team!

The most critical part of a remodel happens behind the scenes during demo and construction. While selecting beautiful tile, paint, and fixtures gets the most attention, the longevity and comfort of a home depend entirely on the hidden systems and details underneath.

A beautiful remodel is built from the inside out.

"We need more storage!"

This primary bathroom was generously sized but offered very little storage—just a medicine cabinet. That's not uncommon in early 1900s homes like this one in the Summit Hill neighborhood.

By converting an old, dated shower into a custom linen closet, we added the storage the homeowners were missing without changing the bathroom's footprint. A simple change that made a big difference.

Take a look at the rest of the bathroom!

While progress on the exterior continues in the field, Dave is back in the shop making epoxy repairs to a couple of the home’s original windows.

Excited to see these restored windows incorporated into the new exterior!
