Sebastian Harbor Marina - St. Augustine

Progress Update | Video #8 ⚓

A beautiful Sunday evening at Sebastian Harbor Marina as the sun sets over the San Sebastian River! 🌅⚓ While things may look quiet, there’s plenty happening behind the scenes. John Valdes spent the evening walking the docks, confirming individual slip dimensions and verifying electrical breaker sizes so our Safe Passage Marina Management team knows exactly what each slip can accommodate as we begin matching boats with their new homes. 🚤

The marina’s storm-resilience improvements are also taking shape. New fender pilings have been installed between the floating docks and bulkhead, along with larger, heavier-duty pilings throughout the basin to help stabilize and protect the dock system during high tides and storm surge. Work continues this week as we move closer and closer to opening!

Project Update with John Valdes | August 21

John is back at one of his favorite homes, sharing a quick update on how beautifully everything is coming together.

A major part of the recent work has been protecting the property from Florida’s tropical weather, including construction of a new storm wall around the home and the installation of pumping systems designed to provide additional protection during heavy rains and storms.

The improvements have also included a new brick driveway and extensive landscaping, which is really beginning to mature and fill in thanks to all of our warm, wet summer weather. 🌴🌿

Now, Daniel Horwitz, our painting contractor, is in the process of repainting the entire home and giving the exterior a fresh new look.

It’s always rewarding to revisit a project and see the landscaping grow, the improvements settle in, and Mother Nature become part of the finished product.

Sebastian Harbor Marina - St. Augustine

Progress Update | Video #7 ⚓️

The restoration continues as we move closer to welcoming boats this October! 🚤 Hayward Marine Construction is installing larger pilings throughout the basin to strengthen and stabilize the floating dock system, while repurposing existing pilings as fender piles to provide additional protection for the docks and vessels during severe weather. 🌊⚓

Meanwhile, Zeke Williams Welding is completing structural repairs and re-welding dock connections affected by the previous ramp configuration. The ramp and floating section are being relocated to reduce stress on the dock system and provide a stronger, more functional setup for the future. A big thank you to both teams for the excellent work they continue to do!

And the exciting part: we are already accepting slip reservations! 🎉 Sebastian Harbor Marina will be professionally managed by Nico Recore and the Safe Passage Marina Management team, and we’re looking forward to welcoming our first boaters this October.

Sebastian Harbor Marina - St. Augustine

Progress Update | Video #6 ⚓

Another important phase of the Sebastian Harbor Marina restoration is underway! In this August 11 update, Hayward Marine Construction is relocating the access ramp on the south side of the marina. The new location will provide better clearance from the bulkhead during high water and storm surge, while also creating a more direct access point for first responders to this side of the marina. 🚧⚓

As John explains, much of the work happening throughout the basin is about hardening the marina and improving its storm resilience. New and additional pilings are being installed, existing dock configurations are being improved, and pilings will remain tall enough to help prevent the floating docks from rising above them during extreme storm conditions. These improvements are all designed to better protect the docks, vessels, and marina infrastructure during severe weather. 🌊💪

Every improvement brings us closer to welcoming our first boaters this October! 🚤 John Valdes & Associates, together with Hayward Marine Construction and our other project partners, continues to carefully restore and strengthen Sebastian Harbor Marina as we prepare for our October Opening! 🎉⚓

Progress Update | Video #5 ⚓

The restoration keeps moving forward! 🚧🌊 In this latest update, John Valdes takes us behind the scenes as Hayward Marine Construction installs new, larger pilings designed to better stabilize the marina’s floating dock system. The existing smaller pilings are being repurposed as protective fender pilings between the docks and concrete bulkhead, providing additional protection and allowing the docks to safely rise and fall with changing tides and storm surge. ⚓💪

Meanwhile, Zeke Williams Welding is putting the finishing touches on the dock modifications featured in our last update, where four finger docks were shortened and the main pier was successfully repositioned approximately 28 inches away from the bulkhead. It’s all part of carefully preparing Sebastian Harbor Marina to be stronger, safer, and ready to welcome boaters. 🚤

Another major milestone is almost complete! 🎉 This week, Zeke Williams Welding and Hayward Marine Construction successfully repositioned one of the marina’s main dock sections to create additional clearance from the seawall. This important improvement will help the floating dock system perform safely during high tides and storm surge while also preparing several slips to better accommodate larger catamarans. Every step of this restoration is focused on building a marina that’s safe, resilient, and ready to serve boaters for years to come. 🚤🌊

As a bonus, John captured one of the marina’s newest little residents on camera! 🐢💙 The basin is already home to an abundance of juvenile sea turtles, a wonderful reminder of the healthy marine environment that surrounds Sebastian Harbor Marina.
