With this olive tree, our client was looking to have the height of her tree reduced. We never suggest topping, but how we achieve the same result with a health better looking tree is by using the drop crotch pruning technique. Drop-crotching, a form of thinning used to reduce the size of large trees, involves the removal of a main branch (or leaders) by cutting it back to a large, lateral branch. We also did some light elevation on the base of the canopy along with house clearance.
