Mold Myth:
“Bleach fixes every mold problem.”
Not quite.
Bleach is often thought of as the go-to solution for mold, but simply spraying bleach on a mold problem doesn't address the underlying cause.
Mold growth is often a sign of a moisture problem. Until the source of the moisture is identified and corrected, the mold can continue to return.
Mold can also grow in places you can't easily see—behind walls, under flooring, in insulation, crawlspaces, attics, and other hidden areas.
The important steps are:
1. Identify the moisture source.
2. Correct the moisture problem.
3. Assess the extent of the affected area.
4. Properly clean or remove affected materials.
5. Address the conditions that allowed the mold to grow in the first place.
So, the next time you see mold, don't just reach for the bleach.
Find out why it's there.
