A Single Flowering Tree Doing All the Work

This yard uses one crepe myrtle tree loaded with hot pink blooms as the star of the whole bed. Around its base there's a curved border of dark mulch, boxwood balls, and dark red cordyline leaves that make the pink flowers pop even harder. Bright annuals like impatiens are tucked along the front edge in reds, pinks, and purples.

A wood fence and a brick house with a covered porch sit in the background, which keeps the focus right where it should be, on that one loud, beautiful tree. I really like that this idea doesn't need a huge yard or a bunch of different plant types.
