THIS is why LOCAL matters.
Today I walked into a home right here in our community that honestly left me disappointed in my own industry.
This gentleman had recently paid $115 to get started with an out-of-town pest control company for a roach problem in his home.
Three weeks later, he was still trying to figure out who had even serviced his house and who to call because he was still having problems.
Somehow, that call eventually led to me standing in his kitchen.
We had never met this gentleman before. Simply Maintenance had never serviced his home.
As I stood there talking with him and asking questions, I could literally see roaches crawling up the kitchen wall.
Then I performed my own inspection.
And this is where, as a pest-control professional, I became extremely disappointed.
During my inspection, I could not find a single placement of roach bait treatment in this home.
Iâm intentionally not naming the company involved. This post isnât about publicly attacking another business. But I am going to speak up for the standards our industry should be held to.
Based on the conditions I personally observed, what I found was well below the standard of service I believe this situation required.
This gentleman had already trusted someone with his home. He had already spent $115 trying to get help. Three weeks later, he was still looking for answers.
That bothered me.
Not because another pest-control company had been there before us. Competition is part of business.
It bothered me because this is somebody in OUR community.
So today, we helped him.
I reduced the cost of our service because I knew he had already spent his hard-earned money trying to get this problem handled. He didnât ask me to do it. I didnât have to do it.
It just felt like the right thing to do.
And thatâs the difference I want people in Russellville and Franklin County to understand.
With a large out-of-town company, you can sometimes become another account on a route.
At Simply Maintenance, youâre our neighbor.
I live here.
I work here.
My company is built here.
My reputation is built here.
When I walk into your home, Iâm not just thinking about todayâs invoice. Iâm thinking about the next time I see you at Walmart, at a ballgame, at a restaurant, at church, or somewhere around town.
My name and my companyâs name have to mean something here.
So before you sign up with an out-of-town pest control company because of a startup offer, a knock at the door, or a good sales pitch, ask some questions.
Who are you actually hiring?
Who answers when thereâs a problem?
What exactly are they doing for the money youâre paying them?
And most importantlyâŚ
Are they part of your communityâor are you just another stop on their route?
Today we gained more than a customer.
We met another neighbor.
Thatâs what locally owned and operated means to us.
