🤪 true story

04/16/2026

$120,000 in 2008 to $560,000 in 2026.

We want to show you something most people don’t think about.

This truck.

It’s called a digger derrick. It’s the piece of equipment that drills the hole and sets the pole. If we’re building line, replacing a pole, or restoring power after a storm, this truck is usually part of it.

There’s a good chance it’s been down your road. Maybe even in your yard.

The one in this picture is pushing 30 years old.

And that’s intentional.

As a member owned cooperative, we don’t replace equipment just because it’s old. We maintain it, repair it, and use it as long as we safely can. That’s how we keep costs down for our members.

But here’s the reality we’re facing.

We purchased a truck like this in 2008 for about $120,000.

Last year, we took delivery of a new one for about $450,000. The next one we’ve ordered will cost $557,177, and it won’t even arrive until 2027 or maybe early 2028.

That’s nearly a 24 percent increase in just over a year.

And it’s not because we’re buying something fancy. We’re not.

Costs are going up, not because we’re extravagant, but because everything costs more. Materials. Labor. Manufacturing. Equipment.

We work hard every day to manage those pressures. We stretch the life of what we own. We make careful decisions about when to replace. And we do everything we can to be good stewards of your cooperative.

But the cost of providing reliable electric service is rising.

And when that happens, it doesn’t stay behind the scenes.

It shows up in the cost of service.

We’ll continue doing everything we can to keep rates as stable as possible while still delivering the safe and reliable power you depend on.

Because at the end of the day, this isn’t just our system.

It’s yours.

Our customer called last night after lightning hit his tree and it just exploded sending a large branch right through the roof.
We are all just so thankful he was not lying in bed when it happened as it was right over the bed.

One of our customers had a Japanese Maple tree that was really not doing well and Wes did his tree magic and our customer sent us a picture to say thank you and show us how beautiful the tree is now. Thank you Mike Hill for always trusting Wes and for sharing the photo with us.
