Dare County has announced a phased reentry plan for southbound traffic on NC12 between the Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe: Wednesday at 7 a.m., southbound traffic will only be allowed for Priority 1, 2, and 3 individuals, as well as for Ocracoke residents. No visitor access on Wednesday.

Then on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 7 a.m., southbound traffic will be available to the general public, including visitors. At that point, all entry restrictions will be lifted. Details: https://bit.ly/4dZiHj1

Again, the area near the Pea Island Visitor Center will be a one-lane gravel road, with traffic control regulated by automated signals. Please drive slowly and with extreme caution through the area. There will be sand and water on the road, and our crews will be out in force making further repairs and re-establishing a protective dune line.

N.C. Highway 12 will reopen to northbound traffic leaving Hatteras Island at 3 p.m. today (Tuesday, Sept. 29). A temporary one-lane gravel roadway will initially carry traffic in one direction only.

Southbound traffic will not be permitted until further notice. When southbound access resumes, current State of Emergency restrictions will remain in place, meaning only Priority One and Priority Two individuals will be permitted to enter Hatteras Island. There is no timeline for when visitor access will be restored.

Heavy congestion is expected when the temporary roadway opens. Drivers should be patient, pay attention and use caution.

Emergency ferry service between Rodanthe and Stumpy Point will continue 24 hours a day until congestion subsides and officials determine the route is no longer needed.

Visitors with upcoming Hatteras Island reservations should not travel toward the island at this time. Contact your accommodations provider directly with questions about your reservation.

💡 Sometimes the expensive repair isn’t actually the problem! 💰

A property owner was quoted around $1,500 to replace a pool light that had stopped working. 😳

While I was there looking into an outlet that had no power, I started troubleshooting and found a tripped breaker.

Turns out… that breaker controlled BOTH the outlet and the pool light! 🤦‍♂️

Reset the breaker and the pool light came right back on. 💡🏊‍♂️

No $1,500 pool light replacement needed!

This is why proper troubleshooting matters. Sometimes the fix is as simple as finding the problem that someone else may have overlooked.
