Lets talk about low slope roofing. In many cases we come across a roof that is at to low of pitch to install shingles. Most building departments will not allow you to install shingles on a pitch less then a 2/12. I dont like to install shingles on anything less then a 3/12 pitch. When we come across a roof or a section of a roof that has a low slope pitched roof. We install a product called Mule Hide. It comes in 39 in rolls. It has a base sheet that is installed to the decking. Mule Hide is a peal and stick product. The base sheet sticks to the plywood and the cap sheet is pealed and sticks to the base sheet. Once these two products are joined together there is no pealing them apart. Here in TN there is no roofing inspections. So many contractors will try to pass of installing shingles. This can lead to leaks and alot if water damage. Whats nice about Mule Hide is that the cap sheet comes in a variety of colors that will match the shingles on the rest of your home. Another quality roof by Buck's Construction. The roof on the addition on the back of the home had been decked with sub flooring. Even though it was dried in with felt papper. Sub flooring cannot be exposed to any type of moisture. The roof on the addition had completely dissolved and was so soft it couldn't be walked on without falling through. We removed all of the sub flooring they used for decking. We then installed the correct decking. We also installed 2x4 blocking between all the rafters making the roof much more structurally spund. One of the greatest things I get out of running my own construction company is seeing the joy of my clients when they see their new roof, new deck, new siding, new garage or new pole barn. Bucks Construction was delighted to have been chosen to replace the roof on the WaterFront Grill in Maryville, TN. We removed all the old slate tiles and rotted wood on the knee wall. We then installed a synthetic felt water barrier on both the knee wall and roof. We then installed new metal roofing on both. In the future, we will be extending the roof of the outdoor dining area into the new metal roof and installing the same color metal, completing the building for an appealing finish. Another quality deck by Buck's construction. On this deck the owners figured just a normal minimal 36 wide steps would be efficient. Since I had discussed with the owners what they had planned on using their new deck for and the answer was family cookouts. With my experience I raised the question and brought to the homeowners attention that since the deck extended only 12 ft from the home. That it may be nice to have the stairs be has wide has the deck. This would make the deck look larger while giving plenty of walking space for guest moving from the home to the back yard activities.
