Good afternoon, Augustine Nation! We hope that everyone has been enjoying their summer so far. Please join us in welcoming to the team Mrs. Charlotte. Charlotte takes care of our estimates and ordering. She recently celebrated an all clear on her last set of X-rays post-surgery. Today she’s here to tell us about another highly important part of your roof, Drip Edge.
Drip edge is very important for preventing wind driven rain from going under the shingles, getting behind the facia, and it allows rain to drip into the gutters or down the side of the house. It is typically made of aluminum, but can also be made of copper, or other metals. It comes in serval different profiles, as can be seen in the photo. They also come in several colors as well to match the trim around the home. Some states require it and some states do not require it as part of their building codes. Here in Maryland, it is required but in Virginia it isn't. Most roofing companies will include it in their installations so that your roof has the best coverage possible. Most of the shingles manufactures also require it to be installed in order for the warranty to be effective. Overall, its yet another very important part of an overall system that works together to protect your home
We here at Augustine Roofing hope that everyone enjoys the last few weeks of summer safely and we look forward to the fall cool down and the start of schools across the area. And as always, Stay safe and blessed and remember to always take care of one another.
