🚧 New Project Underway in Polk County, Georgia! 🚧

We’re excited to kick off this new custom home! This project is taking a smart phased approach to bring his vision to life.

In Phase 1, we’re focusing on getting the site ready:
• Full grading and site preparation
• Building the driveway with elevation adjustments to solve drainage issues
• Installing gates and culvert pipes
• Adding road sanding and strategic culvert placement along the road to eliminate water problems while creating a beautiful, natural barrier for maximum privacy

The goal is a private, peaceful drive leading up to the future home, with almost zero visibility from the neighbors.

We’re also moving forward on a 40x60 red iron shop with 12x40 covered porches on each side. This shop will include a second level with separate living quarters upstairs.

🌿 Backyard Transformation!
This was such a fun project and definitely a little outside our typical scope, but exactly the kind of challenge we love.

The client came to us wanting a backyard redesign while addressing serious drainage problems. During our initial site visit, we identified structural concerns that could eventually compromise their basement wall. We originally proposed a wing wall, but as the design evolved, we saw an opportunity to create something even better.

We transformed the new addition into a custom elevated platform for their hot tub. This not only provided critical perpendicular support to reinforce the basement wall, but it also became the cornerstone of the entire drainage solution. We integrated everything into a comprehensive system: new French drains running across the back of the yard, underground piping from multiple sources were all tied together into one main drain. We then carefully trenched it under the road and daylighted it on the other side.

To stay true to the home’s aesthetic, we used beautiful local slate rock from Rockmart, along with slate rock gravel for the drainage beds. Everything else was locally sourced as well. A big shout-out to the team at Lost Mountain Nursery for the stunning plantings that brought it all to life!

We’re proud of how this project turned potential problems into a beautiful, functional outdoor space.

This project feels different. It’s the first time since writing my thesis that a project has aligned so closely with something I’ve been passionate about since the beginning of my architecture journey.

I am restoring a rustic cabin in the woods not far from where I grew up. I’m refinishing old materials and giving them new life so they can continue to tell their story. It’s not about making something look brand new. It’s about honoring what’s already there.

I grew up just a few miles from here, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. My brother and I spent our childhoods wandering forty acres of untouched land, building forts from fallen limbs and losing all sense of time beneath the trees. One place in particular has stayed with me: a quiet holler where two hills meet, home to the old “bear tree.” That tree still carries the deep scars from a battle it survived long ago. Beneath its branches lies the resting place of my first dog. That land, that stillness, became part of my soul.

There was also an old weathered shack on the property. Its boards creaked in the wind, held together by rusty nails. To some it was just an eyesore. To me, it was full of memory, a structure that had watched families live and die, now slowly being reclaimed by the woods. Even in its decay, it felt like refuge.

This is what draws me to Critical Regionalism. It’s the idea that architecture should be grounded in its place, responding to the land, the culture, the layered histories, and the memories that live in the landscape. Polk County itself carries many layers: the Cherokee communities who once lived along these creeks, the pioneer settlements, the industrial rise, and the quiet remnants still scattered through the woods.

When I work on this cabin, I’m not just restoring a structure. I’m trying to listen to the land and the stories it holds, then give them new life with care and respect.

Project Update: Kennesaw Design-Build Home 🏡✨

We’re excited to share the latest progress on our client’s stunning home! We’ve completely transformed the main living space into exactly what they were needing: a warm, open, and designed to perfectly match their mid-century modern style.

Originally, the clients hoped for a rear ADU, but city regulations in Kennesaw didn’t allow it. We proposed extending the living space to create a seamless connection with a beautiful new outdoor area, plus adding a private master suite on the end. The result is a flowing, functional home that feels custom-built just for them.

We’re currently finishing the front entrance and main entryway details. The kitchen will be the final space we complete before this project is fully wrapped!

Exterior Highlights
Check out the recent updates to the exterior — we’re locking in window selections, siding, and the pergola. The clients are especially loving the Struxure operable system proposed for the side porch. It beautifully connects the outdoor firepit and garden to the house through an outdoor kitchen, outdoor living area, and swim spa. This system opens and closes based on exterior conditions, giving them the ultimate indoor/outdoor experience.

This entire home is being designed and constructed in three thoughtful phases, and it’s coming together beautifully in their signature mid-century modern aesthetic.

After a year of hard work, dedication, and countless late nights, I’m thrilled to announce that I have officially received my Commercial General Contractor License from the State of Georgia!

Every role I’ve held from BIM Coordinator and VDC Manager on major projects at Ryan Companies, AECOM Hunt, and Kajima, to building my own consulting and design work through C/Seiz Ventures has been a critical building block leading to this moment.

Last year at this exact time, I was mourning the loss of my father. Through every challenge and every step of this process, I’ve felt him with me. This milestone is as much his as it is mine.

None of this would have been possible without my incredible family, my wife and son, who have stood by me every single step of the way. They supported me through all the late nights of studying, held me up during the hardest days after losing my dad, and gave me the strength and encouragement to keep pushing forward. Their love and belief in me has meant everything.

I truly believe every position we find ourselves in is a defining moment. We have to soak up as much knowledge and wisdom as possible, because it all becomes fuel for the next chapter and makes us better professionals and better people.

Grateful for the journey, the people who’ve supported me (especially my family), and what’s ahead with Evolve Design and Build.

✨ Another dream project moving into construction soon! ✨

This family just purchased a new home and wanted to make it truly theirs. We expanded their living space and seamlessly blended it with the kitchen to create the open-concept layout they desired. We centered the front door for better flow with the new addition and added a beautiful sunroom/family observation room, a perfect flex space where the kids can play while overlooking the pool and backyard.

Now they have stunning panoramic views of the outdoor space from the kitchen sink and throughout the living area. Safety, connection, and beautiful design all in one!

The homeowners love arches, so we carried that signature detail throughout, inside and out. Arched openings connect the dining area through the pantry to a custom mudroom with lockers, then out to the screened porch. We also added a catslide roof, arched front porch details, and a welcoming arched entrance.
