Take a few minutes to check your attic for signs of moisture.

Look for things like damp insulation, dark staining on the roof decking, musty odors, or condensation on nails and framing.

One common issue we see is bathroom exhaust fans vented directly into the attic or crawlspace instead of outside the home. Over time, that moisture builds up and can lead to mold, wood rot, and insulation damage.

Another sign of poor attic ventilation is when rafters appear to “sweat” or show sticky resin spots. This often happens when attic temperatures get extremely high and the wood begins releasing sap.

Improving ventilation with proper ridge and soffit airflow, or even installing solar attic ventilation fans, can help remove heat and moisture before it becomes a bigger problem.

Catching these issues early can prevent costly repairs down the road.
