Apparently this dryer vent in Pittsford was going for the open-concept look 😅

There was just a big opening around the vent pipe behind the dryer. We added a proper wall plate to cover it up and installed a new dryer vent hose.

Now everything is secured, covered, and looks much cleaner behind the dryer 👌

🤢 This dryer in East Irondequoit was feeling a little sick… and had to puke some lint out.

This wasn’t all of the lint removed during the job - just the portion caught on video when the dryer was turned back on after cleaning the vent.

Above this Spencerport dryer was a patchwork setup - improper hose, excessive length, mixed materials, and awkward routing.

The entire run was removed and rebuilt with a new premium dryer vent hose, rigid metal ductwork, and secure supports. The finished system now has a direct, clean route outside.

Your lint screen catches a lot.

It doesn’t catch everything.

This lint was packed inside a dryer in Irondequoit, underneath the drum.

Lint is extremely flammable. Combined with the heat of a dryer, that tinder sitting inside is not something to ignore.

Pulled an 18-foot dryer vent “slinky” out of a basement ceiling in Henrietta.

You remember the old slinky toy that walked down the stairs by itself?

That’s what this aluminum flex hose reminded me of - except this wasn’t a toy. This was hooked up to someone’s dryer.

A dryer vent hose is supposed to be a short connector from the dryer to the metal vent pipe. It is not supposed to become the vent pipe itself.

This one was about 18 feet long.

Maximum allowed length: 8 feet.

This style of hose bends, sags, crushes, and holds lint inside every ridge. Add 18 feet of it behind a dryer, and now the dryer is fighting through a long, restricted lint trap.

When we fix a setup like this, the long run gets replaced with proper metal vent pipe. Then we use a premium, code-compliant dryer vent hose only where it belongs - as the short connection at the dryer.

If your dryer takes forever to dry clothes, don’t blame the dryer first.

This is tinder - and I don't mean dating 🔥

This lint wasn't in the vent - it was caked directly onto the motor during a recent dryer lint cleaning in Fairport.

The copper windings wrapped around it get hot every time the dryer runs. During a single cycle, the drum spins thousands of times.

When lint builds up on these components, it traps heat and reduces cooling, causing premature wear.

Dryer lint is tinder. Wrapped around hot copper windings, that's a dangerous combination.

This was a fire waiting to happen.

Cleaning the vent is only half the battle. Most homeowners never see what's hiding inside their dryer.

Most homeowners know they should clean their dryer vent. Not many know what to look for BEHIND the dryer.

This dryer vent connection was barely hanging on.

It had a triple threat of improper tapes on it. None of them are designed for dryer vent use. The constant heat from the dryer breaks down the adhesive, loosens the connection, and allows hot air and lint to escape.

The screw is another major issue. It protruded into the pipe and created a catch point where lint builds up. Screws should not be used to fasten dryer vent pipe together.

Many dryer vent problems aren't caused by lint alone. Improper materials and installation mistakes are common issues homeowners rarely know to look for.
