Is Your Pond Over 10 Years Old?

Read This Before You Replace the Liner.

One of the first things we hear when someone calls us is:
"My pond is leaking... there must be a hole in the liner."
Surprisingly, that's often not the case.
If your pond is 10 years old or older, one of the first places we inspect is the skimmer and waterfall filter faceplates.

Over time, the original screws can rust, corrode, or completely disintegrate. Once that happens, the faceplate can no longer maintain the pressure needed to keep the gasket sealed against the liner. Water finds the smallest opening and begins leaking behind the liner.

We've repaired countless ponds where the liner was in great shape. The leak wasn't the liner at all. It was aging hardware that had simply reached the end of its life.

The photos below are from a recent repair. Many of the original screws had completely deteriorated. We removed the old hardware, cleaned the sealing surfaces, installed new stainless steel screws, applied fresh sealant, and restored a watertight seal.

Common signs this could be your problem:
💧 Your pond is 10+ years old.

💧 You're adding water more often than you used to.

💧 The water level consistently drops.

💧 The water level stops around the skimmer or waterfall filter.

💧 Your original faceplate screws are rusted, corroded, or missing.

Before assuming you need a new liner, have the faceplates inspected. It's one of the most common repairs we perform on older ponds, and it's often far less expensive than replacing a liner.
