The Door May Be Closing
These doors, made from solid oak, arrived to my shop in pretty bad condition.
They were from a classic older home in Corn Hill.
In spite of the outward appearance the finish was very hard to remove.
I am still able to save some of these doors because I managed to purchase the last of the chemical I require from my distributor who will no longer manufacture it due to changes in the laws governing its use.
I am not sure what the long term situation will be regarding refinishing and restoration but even without the chemical availability, I don't think there will be anyone doing this kind of work and the costs are likely to put the process out of reach for many home owners
