🔥 Wireless Thermostat Installation — No Walls to Open!

Another thermostat upgrade completed by Critical Heating & Hydronics LLC!

This is a really old home with traditional lath-and-plaster walls, making it extremely difficult to run new thermostat wiring without opening up the walls and potentially causing unnecessary damage.

Instead of cutting into the walls, we installed a Braeburn BlueLink 8500 wireless thermostat and control module, integrating it with the existing Taco zone control for the hydronic gas boiler system.

A clean solution that gives the homeowner modern thermostat control without tearing into the original walls.

🔥 Heating Season Is Here — Is Your System Ready? 🔥

As temperatures begin to drop and heating systems start running more frequently, now is the time to make sure your heating equipment is properly serviced, inspected, and operating safely.

Don’t wait until the first major cold snap—or until your heating system stops working—to find out there’s a problem.

⚠️ Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is preventable.

Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless, and potentially deadly gas produced when fuels such as natural gas, propane, oil, wood, and other fuels do not burn properly. Heating equipment, fireplaces, generators, vehicles, and other fuel-burning appliances can all be sources of CO.

During the winter months, heating systems may run for hours at a time, increasing the importance of proper maintenance, ventilation, and working carbon monoxide detectors.

Know the symptoms of CO poisoning:
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Weakness
• Nausea or vomiting
• Chest pain
• Confusion

Make sure you have working CO detectors near sleeping areas, never operate fuel-burning equipment in an enclosed or improperly ventilated space, and have your heating equipment inspected and maintained by a qualified professional.

Another exhaust fan brought into the Siemens BMS.

Wired the exhaust fan into the Siemens control system, programmed the VFD and set all operating parameters, configured and verified the control points, and built the graphics for complete BAS monitoring and control.

From field wiring → VFD programming → parameter setup → Siemens I/O → point configuration → graphics — taking an older piece of equipment and bringing the entire system into modern BAS control.

Another full controls integration from the equipment all the way back to the BMS.

Upgraded the standard anode rod to a powered anode rod on the power-vented water heater to provide enhanced corrosion protection and extend the life of the unit.

Performed a preventative flush of the water heater to remove sediment and maintain proper operation.

08/19/2026

No AC Call: GE R22 unit manufactured in 1983. Found the condenser fan motor not operating. Tested the capacitor and found it had failed. Replaced the capacitor, but the condenser fan still did not operate. Tested the fan motor and confirmed the motor had failed.

Replaced the condenser fan capacitor and motor, then verified proper motor rotation and operation. While the unit was disassembled, inspected the condenser coil and found it heavily impacted with dirt and debris. Cleaned the condenser coil and reassembled the unit. System is now operating properly with discharge air temperature approximately 50°F.

🔥 32 Years of Service — Time for a New Furnace! 🔥

Another furnace replacement completed by Critical Heating & Hydronics!

This 32-year-old American Standard 80,000 BTU, 80% furnace had provided decades of service, but it was time for retirement. We replaced it with a new Goodman 80,000 BTU, 80% AFUE furnace, maintaining the home’s existing heating capacity while providing a reliable new system for years to come.

But installing a furnace is only half the job — proper commissioning is just as important.

🛠️ Installation & Commissioning Included:
• Removed the 32-year-old furnace
• Installed new Goodman 80,000 BTU 80% furnace
• Adapted and connected the existing ductwork
• Verified gas piping and connections
• Checked and adjusted gas pressure
• Performed an external static pressure test to verify airflow and system resistance
• Performed a combustion analysis to verify proper combustion and safe operation
• Verified flue gas performance and combustion readings
• Tested heating operation and controls
• Completed final system startup and commissioning

The combustion analysis readings were looking very good, and the static pressure and gas pressure checks gave us the information needed to verify the new furnace was operating properly with the existing system.

A furnace replacement isn’t just about putting a new box in place. Proper testing, setup, and commissioning are what make sure that new equipment operates safely, efficiently, and as designed.

After 32 years, this American Standard has officially earned its retirement. 🔥

A little HVAC misinformation we came across this week…

Not gonna name any HVAC companies, but a customer contacted us after being told this was “crystallized carbon monoxide” and that their 80% furnace was being phased out.

Neither is accurate.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a gas. It doesn’t crystallize or leave behind a powdery residue on a furnace.

What you’re seeing is much more consistent with oxidation/corrosion from the galvanized metal around the flue and draft hood, mixed with accumulated dust. Heat and moisture from years of combustion can cause this type of buildup.

And as far as 80% furnaces go, they’re still a legitimate option for replacement in many existing-home applications. Don’t let someone tell you that you have to replace an existing 80% furnace with a 96% furnace simply because it’s “being phased out.”

HVAC should be diagnosed with facts—not made-up terminology.
