Pumpkins are in sight, which means colder weather is not far behind. 🍁

As fall settles in, now is an ideal time for building owners and facility teams to assess the condition of their roofing and exterior wall systems before winter arrives. Annual inspections can help identify concerns such as drainage issues, debris buildup, flashing flaws, storm damage and other potential vulnerabilities—giving you time to plan repairs and protect your investment.

Merit’s Asset Management team provides detailed inspections, professional reporting and actionable insights to help clients make informed maintenance decisions and plan confidently for the future.

Contact Merit to schedule an inspection and prepare your building enclosure for the season ahead.

Building relationships on and off the jobsite.

The Merit team was proud to participate in the annual scholarship golf outing hosted by the Southeast Minnesota chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC). The event helps support scholarships, workforce development initiatives, and programs that encourage and empower the next generation of construction professionals.

Thank you to our team members Jake Appel, Natalie Appel, and Laura Sheehan for representing Merit alongside our Industry Partners. Events like these provide a great opportunity to strengthen industry relationships while supporting a meaningful cause that invests in the future of construction.

We're grateful to be part of an industry that values collaboration, mentorship, and creating opportunities for future leaders.

Fall is the ideal time to plan ahead for winter.

Merit Building Enclosure Systems’ Asset Management program includes comprehensive annual inspections of roofing and wall systems. These inspections can help identify concerns such as storm damage, drainage issues, debris buildup, flashing flaws and system deterioration before they develop into larger, more costly repairs.

Taking a proactive approach now can help protect your property, extend the life of your systems and provide greater peace of mind as colder weather approaches.

As students head back to school, we’re proud to give back to the future of our community.

The Merit and Metropolitan Mechanical Contractors, Inc. team volunteered with United Way of Southeast Minnesota’s Running Start for School program, helping sort, organize, and prepare school supplies for distribution.

We’re grateful to have played a small part in making it possible for more than 4,000 local students to receive the backpacks and supplies they need to start the year prepared, confident and ready to learn. Beyond supporting students with the supplies they need, Merit helps create safe, reliable learning environments year-round by inspecting more than 3,487,132 square feet of school roofing.

Thank you to our team members who gave their time and to United Way of Southeast Minnesota for making this meaningful program possible.

Last month, Merit was proud to once again give back to a cause that is helping build brighter futures for young people.

As an Associate Sponsor of the 2026 Federated Challenge, our team joined other community-minded organizations at Hazeltine National Golf Club to support Big Brothers Big Sisters. Pictured are Greg Schelling and Josh Fernholz representing Merit on the course.

Through its annual gala and golf event, the Federated Challenge raises funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters organizations, helping create meaningful, professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships between youth and caring adult volunteers. The event also supports scholarships that help young people pursue career and educational opportunities.

We’re grateful to be part of an event that invests in the next generation and helps unlock potential—one relationship at a time.

Summer storms can expose weak points in your building enclosure.

Heavy rain, wind, hail, and rapid temperature changes can put roofing, flashing, drainage systems, walls, windows, and other exterior components to the test.

After a storm, building owners and facility teams should watch for:
- Water intrusion or interior leaks
- Ponding water or blocked roof drains
- Damaged flashing, copings, or rooftop details
- Visible damage to wall panels, windows, or glazing
- Storm debris that could affect roof drainage or system performance

Addressing issues early can help protect your building, reduce the risk of more extensive damage, and extend the service life of your roofing and wall systems.

Merit Contracting provides building-envelope service support—from leak diagnosis and repair solutions to emergency repairs and proactive inspections. If a recent storm has raised concerns about your property, our team is ready to help.

Need emergency service? Merit offers 24/7 emergency repair support.

Merit was proud to sponsor The Arc Minnesota’s Golfers’ Choice Tournament at Somerby Golf Club.

Our President, Jeremy Wohlfiel, and his wife, Jen, were honored to represent Merit at this meaningful event. Their time spent connecting with the community reflects the importance of supporting organizations that create greater access, advocacy and opportunity for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The tournament brought golfers, sponsors and community members together to raise funds for The Arc Minnesota’s Southeast region programs. Proceeds help support critical resources, services and advocacy that empower people with disabilities to live, work and play on their own terms.

Thank you to The Arc Minnesota for the meaningful work you do — and to everyone who helped make the event a success.
