Some kitchens are filled in. Others are fully considered.

The difference shows up in the small decisions: how the refrigerator blends in, where the range sits, and whether every appliance looks like it belongs to the same design. When those choices are made together, the kitchen works the way it looks, every day.

That’s the approach behind our design process. Our designers and in-house Appliance Division plan the cabinetry and appliances side by side, so the specs are confirmed, the look stays cohesive, and the layout works for both function and the space itself.

The result is a kitchen that feels ready for you every time you walk in.

See how you can qualify for a $2,500 credit toward your appliance package at the link in our bio. Offer limited to our Southeast MI and Toledo, OH Design Centers.

Dark color choices aren’t a risk. Sometimes, they’re exactly what the space calls for.

Across these spaces, a darker element sets the tone: countertops, cabinetry, a statement wall, a moody backsplash, each one intentional rather than cold. Warm wood tones ground every space, and brass hardware catches just enough light to keep the whole palette feeling inviting rather than heavy.

Moody doesn’t have to mean unwelcoming. Sometimes it’s the detail that makes a room finally feel finished.

“A finished space should feel finished everywhere you look.”

That’s the standard KSI Designer Anneke Huisman brought to this West Michigan kitchen, where opening the space meant every detail would be seen.

That care shows up first at the island, where Huisman anchored the room with a single slab of quartz, then paired it with a single-bowl sink in a finish that ties directly into the countertop. The metals throughout the kitchen follow the same logic. Satin nickel pulls and a stainless faucet keep everything in the same family against hickory cabinets, so the hardware stays quiet and the wood grain does the talking.

The rest of the kitchen is built for the way two cooks actually move through it. Touch-latch storage on the back of the island keeps the profile clean without a single pull, and hidden storage throughout keeps kitchen essentials in order. An open shelf nook gives everyday pieces a place to be seen, while a coffee bar with decorative glass-front doors along the shared wall brings the kitchen into the dining room, so the two spaces feel connected without losing their own identity.

In an open space, a finished kitchen isn’t a single moment. It’s every moment, in every direction you look.

Serious cooking deserves serious performance.

More home chefs are demanding professional-grade appliances without giving up a clean, cohesive look. That's where the right planning makes all the difference: choosing appliances built for real performance, and making sure every piece fits the kitchen it's going into, not the other way around.

At KSI, our in-house Appliance Division works with your designer from day one, confirming fit, specs, and placement before anything is ordered, so your kitchen performs like a chef's and still feels like a considered space.

Right now, that same process comes with a $2,500 bundle discount toward your kitchen with appliance package on qualifying projects at our Southeast, MI or Toledo, OH Design Centers.

Warm wood and quiet character make these vanities feel naturally inviting.

Soft, rustic cabinetry in a warm Sesame stain brings depth to the space, while alder's natural grain and knots give each piece its own personality instead of a uniform, manufactured look.

The result is a bathroom that feels grounded rather than staged, warmth built in rather than added on.

Open but defined.

One wall coming down didn’t quite do it. Even after the homeowners’ partial demo, the space felt smaller than it actually was, and the kitchen and dining room still read as two separate rooms. KSI Designer Anneke Huisman took it the rest of the way, reworking the layout so the kitchen, dining area, and living space flow together. A coffee bar, a tall pantry, and a change in cabinetry height give each zone its own identity within one wide open space.

At the center, a single slab of quartz anchors a two-cook kitchen, and the island sits on an angle to open up the walkway and leave room at the stove and sink. New flooring runs continuous from the kitchen into the dining area, finishing the move from a kitchen boxed away to the true center of the home.

The best kitchen designs are just as intentional behind closed drawers as they are on display.

A dedicated spice drawer keeps everyday essentials organized and within reach, bringing real functionality to the heart of the home. Details like this are what elevate everyday routines, proof that even the smallest choices make a difference.

Dark, moody, and full of character.

Deeper tones, rich textures, and intentional contrast do something a lighter palette can’t: they give a space real depth. Dark cabinetry paired with complementary accents and statement finishes reads as sophisticated without feeling cold or unapproachable.

For KSI Designer Brooke Dando, designing with darker palettes is about more than making a statement. It’s about finding the balance between bold choices and the warmth that makes a house feel like home.

The spaces that come out of that balance feel distinctive and timeless, built around the people living in them rather than a trend passing through.

Some kitchens are built for cooking. Others are built for the crowd that shows up while you're doing it.

This time of year asks for both: a range that performs as well as it looks, storage that means nothing's missing mid-recipe, and an island big enough for the people who always end up gathered around it anyway.

Let's make your kitchen the place everyone gathers. Schedule a complimentary consultation at the link in our bio!
