Every cut of this red oak project began with careful planning and layout. Before anything was assembled, we mapped out the details, laid the pieces out in our shop, and made sure everything fit together just right.

Supporting Our Community 💙⛳

This past weekend, Cain Millwork was proud to attend and sponsor a hole at a golf outing held in support of Justin Early, a local community member facing significant medical costs following triple bypass surgery.

Events like this remind us how powerful a community can be when it comes together to support one of its own. We're grateful for the opportunity to lend a hand and wish Justin a smooth and speedy recovery.

Thank you to the organizers for putting together such a great event, and to everyone who came out to support a good cause!

Happy National VFW Day 🇺🇸

Today we're celebrating an organization that's done so much for veterans — and celebrating one of our own who leads the charge locally.

Our estimator, Dennis Orlikowski, is a US Navy veteran and Commander of Rochelle VFW Post 3878. Beyond the work he does for us every day, Dennis dedicates his time to supporting fellow veterans through the VFW.

Recently, Dennis represented Post 3878 at a walk raising awareness for veteran su***de prevention with Dekalb American Legion Post #66, where the post donated to the cause. He was joined by a fellow VFW member in a show of solidarity and support.

Walkers carried rocks engraved with the names of veterans we've lost, placing each one at a waterfall along the route — a quiet, powerful tribute to their service and sacrifice.

On National VFW Day, we want to say thank you — to the VFW, to Dennis, and to every veteran who continues to serve their community long after their service ends.

Hard Maple vs. Soft Maple 🌳

When it comes to millwork, the right maple depends on the look, performance, and budget you’re after.

Hard Maple
• Excellent durability
• Dense, uniform grain
• Minimal pores for a smooth, solid finish
• Light cream to pale white in color
• Higher price point

Soft Maple
• Softer than hard maple, but still quite dense
• More variation in grain
• May have minor natural irregularities
• Light beige to light brown tones
• More affordable

💡 Fun fact: Despite the name, soft maple isn’t actually a “soft” wood! It’s harder than woods like pine or fir. The name simply helps distinguish it from hard maple.
