Shop Local, shop small y'all

A couple years ago, when I started getting serious about woodworking, I ran into a problem:

I needed quality hardwood lumber, preferably local, and I didn't have a pile of money to spend.

What I found was a hidden gem right here in Crawford County.

Steve Shawler's Forestech Wood Products in West Union has hardwoods like maple, walnut, cherry, white oak, and more, all locally grown, harvested, and kiln dried. He also offers planing and jointing services, builds picnic tables and swings, and keeps a mountain of firewood on hand.

Speaking of firewood...

If you're planning campfires, cookouts, or evenings around the fire pit this summer, Steve can load a pickup truck or small trailer with firewood for just $10.

Seriously.

I put together this video because I think small businesses like Steve's deserve a little attention, and because I genuinely believe he's worth supporting.

Take a look, and if you need lumber, firewood, woodworking services, or just want to meet a good local craftsman, give Forestech a visit.

If you stop by, tell him the Jerk sent you.

You ever go to shut your door and it just… *refuses to participate in society?*

Spring hits and suddenly every door in the house decides it’s got attitude—won’t latch, won’t close, slamming like it’s got unresolved childhood trauma.

Here’s the deal:
Most of the time, it’s NOT a big expensive fix.
It’s a small adjustment. The kind of thing you *can* do… if you know what you’re looking at.

That’s where I come in.

I’m running a **Spring Door Adjustment Special** right now—quick, affordable, no judgment, no upsell nonsense.

šŸ‘‰ Door won’t shut right
šŸ‘‰ Not latching
šŸ‘‰ Sagging, dragging, acting possessed

I’ll get it lined back up so it actually does its one job: close.

And if you’re the DIY type but just stuck on *that one stupid part*, I can help with that too. No shame, no lectures—just real help.

Shoot me a message and let’s get your door acting like a door again.

Because life’s hard enough without fighting your house every time you go outside.

I didn’t want to keep posting about this fundraiser.

I wanted to put it out there once and let it stand on its own. But after a week of calls with billing departments, I can’t pretend things are easing up.

They’re not.

Most places don’t actually pause anything. They just push it down the road and stack it higher.

Like our phone bill. They will let us delay March, but only if we pay April on time and then both in May. Which lands right in the middle of recovery for both of us.

That’s not help. That’s a delayed hit.

Utilities pointed us toward assistance programs we’ve already struggled to get help from. Internet’s been decent. I still need to talk to the bank, and I’m hopeful there.

But most of this is still due. Still ticking.

And that puts me back in the same place I’ve been stuck for three years:

I can feel my hands and arms getting worse.

But stepping away to fix it means everything else risks falling apart.

So the question keeps circling:
Do I fix the problem…
or keep going until I can’t anymore?

And here’s the part that’s been eating at me:

If I put surgery off again and just keep working, it doesn’t feel right taking donations meant to get us through recovery if I’m not actually in recovery.

I don’t know what the ā€œrightā€ move is here.

If you’ve got thoughts, I’m listening.

Because lately my brain feels like it’s moving through wet concrete.

Today I had physical therapy, then a neurology appointment I’ve been waiting weeks for.

I reminded AJ.
I told my PT I was going right after.

Then I got in my truck and drove home.

Didn’t realize I missed it until the hospital texted me.

Now I’m rescheduled out to May.

That’s where I’m at right now.

I don’t like asking for help.
But I also don’t like pretending I’ve got this handled when I clearly don’t.

If you’ve donated, shared, or even just taken a second to read this, thank you.

And if you can share this, it really does help more than you probably think.

We’re still here. Just trying to make the least-wrong decision in a pile of bad options.

UPDATE! Hacker locked out for good and I'm back in to both Google and YouTube! Thank you guys for stuffing l hanging on with me through everything.

Yesterday around 6:20pm CST, my Google account tied to the business and YouTube channel was fully compromised.

The attacker changed the password, recovery info, and locked it behind a physical security key I do not have. I no longer have control of the phone number 856-THE-JERK (843-5375), of my google account, or full control of my YouTube channel.

This account contains business data, personal information, medical and financial, and can access everything you could imagine as it was our primary means of income and expenditures.

I’ve already gone through Google recovery and YouTube creator support. A ticket is in, but now it’s a waiting game while the hacker gets 15hrs of free time with my data.

āš ļø What I need from you:

- If you see anything unusual posted from my accounts, assume it’s not me

- Report it as hacked immediately

- Do not click suspicious links or respond to strange messages

If you need to reach me directly:

šŸ“§ [email protected]
Discord: Rick.The.Jerk
By phone if you know my number (NOT THE 856 number, it is also compromised)

I may still respond on Facebook or Instagram for now, but those could be targeted next so be leery.

If the YouTube channel gets taken or shut down, I’m not disappearing. I’ll keep making content one way or another, even if I lose the ability to be paid for it. It just won't be free jobs as big as we've been doing and won't happen weekly anymore.

I’ll update you as long as I still have access anywhere.

Thanks for standing by me through all the insanity. I'd love to say our lives aren't always this riddled with strife, but, still waiting to see that my damn self. Pic for the algorithm

02/27/2026

I don’t typically share things like this publicly unless it’s to benefit someone I care about. But this is for my family - and I care about them quite a lot - so I’ll make an exception.

Over the past stretch, what started as long-standing wear and tear has escalated into something more serious. I’ve been diagnosed with a new spinal disc bulge that’s compressing a nerve, on top of existing back issues and carpal and cubital tunnel in both arms.

The nerve compression has caused tremors in my hands, weakness in my legs, sleep disruption, and other neurological symptoms that I can’t responsibly ignore.

I have surgery scheduled on my right arm on March 10th, followed by surgery on the left. That puts me at up to 12 weeks of severely limited work capacity, and we won’t even know the full picture with my spine until after those surgeries due to insurance requirements.

I’m still taking on jobs on the days I’m physically able - just at a slower pace and with far fewer projects than normal. When you’re self-employed, that reduced capacity hits fast. We’re looking at a significant gap in income over the next few months.

Based on the timeline, this could mean a five-figure reduction in income over the next few months.

We started a GoFundMe to help cover bills and keep things stable while we navigate surgeries, physical therapy, and recovery.

We’re handling what we can. This just helps bridge a very real gap.

If you feel led to help, we’re deeply grateful. If not, we completely understand. Sharing it helps too.

Our focus is our family and staying steady - this gives us breathing room to do that.

Thank you for taking the time to read, and for any support you want to show. You guys are amazing.
