Lytle Electric Company offers opportunities for area high school students to job shadow each year to live a day in the life of a Journeyman Inside Wireman (JIW). Today was no exception, we hosted two interested seniors from Red Hill Jr/Sr High School, Blaine Steber and Hayden Arbuckle as well as Hunter Garrard, a Robinson High School Junior. The students were granted security clearance to visit job sites at the Robinson Illinois new Hershey addition and see the intricate process controls and automation being installed by Lytle Electric at the plant. The apprenticeship degree-program and various work types were discussed to include the following; blown fiber optics, instrumentation, motor controls, power distribution systems to 13,800 volts, and the multiple types of raceway and support installation. The students were also afforded an opportunity to attend a daily management/planning meeting and interviews with a Project Manager, Superintendant, Estimator, Sr. Planner, QA/QC and Safety Director. The day included interviews with Journeymen Wiremen in their work environment performing installation activities. There were several hands-on activities that the young men were able to participate in such as conduit bending and conduit threading. We are always interested in engaging interested students and recruiting the next generation of electrical workers. Special thanks JD Bayne with Hershey, Red Hill JR/SR High School & Robinson Community Unit School District 2 staff for working with Lytle Electric to make this happen. Pictured below are Lytle Electric Project Manager, Randy Russell and Safety Director, Eric Biernbaum working with the students explaining trigonometry as it relates to conduit bending.

Lytle Electric Company had the opportunity to host a couple of local students in a job shadow. The two interested seniors from Oblong High School, Linus Bay and Ezrah Lemmon got to see what a day in the life of a Journeyman Inside Wireman (JIW) looks like. The students were granted security clearance to visit job sites at MPC, IRD in Robinson and Lincoln Land Agri Energy in Palestine Illinois. The apprenticeship degree-program and various work types were discussed to include the following; blown fiber optics, instrumentation, motor controls, power distribution systems to 13,800 volts, and the multiple types of raceway and support installations. The students were also afforded an opportunity to attend a weekly safety meeting and interview JIWs in the work environment. There were several hands-on activities that the young men were able to participate in such as blueprint reading, conduit bending and conduit threading. We are always interested in engaging interested students and recruiting the next generation of electrical workers. Special thanks to Oblong High School Guidance Counselor, Amanda Lewis, for working with Lytle Electric and the students to make this happen. Lytle Electric Company and Skill Electric have a long-standing admiration for our active military members and veterans. Over the years there have been many veterans that have worked in various capacities in the commercial and industrial markets for Lytle/Skill, from General Foreman, Foreman, Journeyman Inside Wireman, Apprentice and support personnel. The structure, capacity, diversity and versatility that our military men and women bring to the workforce are just a few of reasons they will always be welcome at our place of employment. The success our veterans bring to the workplace has been a constant over the years, but it’s the service and sacrifice to our country that endears them to all. This year we are making an effort to showcase these hometown heroes for their service to our country and give thanks for providing the blanket of freedom that covers all Americans. It goes without saying that this freedom is the bedrock that America was built on, creating the land of the free and home of the brave. Lytle & Skill Electric are blessed to have 9 veterans currently employed on job sites in Illinois and Indiana. Please take a moment to recognize our Veterans on Friday, November 11th for all they have done and show them some love-we salute you!
