USA: Why ‘Price Stability’ Is a Myth
Many people hope for true price stability in the U.S., but as someone who guides clients through major financial decisions in real estate, I see that the story is much more complex. When prices rise for one item, they often fall elsewhere—spending shifts, but not everything moves together. For example, while technology has become more affordable and accessible, we've seen hotel rooms, sporting events, and especially tuition costs climb as these luxuries remain limited. This perspective highlights why the central bank can't guarantee lasting price stability. Every day, countless transactions and global production patterns shape what things cost. A steadier dollar might shift investment away from inflation hedges and make some prices more predictable, but scarce goods will always command a premium. In the end, price changes aren’t always signs of trouble—they can signal growth and progress, even in our local markets here in Mercer County. Understanding these shifts helps me provide thoughtful, steady guidance to clients navigating buying, selling, or renting their homes.
